Been soaking up all the awesome builds for a couple weeks now and thought I would finally dive in and share my story. Retired from the Army almost 5 years ago, and began looking for something to occupy my need to find something as exciting as blowing things up, it came in the form of a 66 Mustang for my son.
After a 24 year hiatus from old cars I found my next passion, a 9 month frame on ensued and my first paint job turned out pretty decent. Now done with his car (or at least so I thought) I went looking for my favorite car 65 GTO, well got close with at 66, the previous owner had things started, blasted, new suspension, and a load of new parts to get me going. I began with a pile of panel patch work to all the usual rusted out sheet metal; lower door skins on both sides, replaced tail panel, rear deck filler panel, rusted out rear window, and a few minor patches here and there. Once all the sheetmetal was firmed up I separated the body from the frame and began getting it cleaned up, boxed frame rails, inner frame rail welded in, por 15 applied. This is where I am at currently.
Future plans
Frame notch/tub
Air Ride Shockwaves
Ponty 455 with th-400
04-06 seats
I have thus far been able to do all the work myself, much to the vast amount of information gleaned from sites like this one, although I am now hooked on Protouring.com as I have yet to find the same amount of knowledge and incredible talent all in one site.
Got a bunch of pics at work and will post when I get a chance
