U Bolts

hey all,
I am almost done dropping my 79 T/A
But I have a quick question, cause I have done some dumb things before.
how tight should the U bolts be???(torque spec)
I think if I keep cranking on them Ill smash my axle tubes.

40 lb-ft if you're using the stock ones with rubber cushions above and below spring. The T bolts are also the same. Over tightening will bend the shock plate before you crush the axle tube.

yep....I added machine lock nuts on the bottoms of my U bolt nuts for "just in case" scenerio. There shoould be a gap between the bottom plate and the spring perch....that is normal and correct.
