I'm in California, you know... home of the best paints, don't laugh too hard. A buddy of mine that is a painter here in CA suggested I painted the car with PPG's Envirobase, but I'm apprehensive because it's a) waterbased--which I know nothing about and b) expensive!!!! Is there another base/clear combination that you guys have seen great results from?

Well first any quality paint is going to cost you more than the off brand stuff that say Summit sells. It is amazing when you tell people how much just the paint will cost for their car, the look on their face. Any way you are in Cali so you have to use water/bourn paint also it is water bourn not water base paint (water bourn paint are still made with solvent, water based paint would be made with a water base). If you are looking for a less expensive look at Akzo Nobel's Lesonal WB or Wanda brand, the Lesonal is a very good product and is VERY easy to use and is about 20 to 30% less then the brand you mentioned. Wanda is our trade brand paint. We sell it through some auto parts stores and some jobbers. Again very easy to use and very cost effective, and you are getting the same technology that we put in to are premium brand Sikkens. Hope some of this helps.
