So I am looking for advice on wiring a convertible top... My top goes down but when I try to put it back up it starts to go up and then the switch kicks out... After about 30 seconds I can turn it back on again but it then kicks out again. Someone told me that the switch needs to have a relay wired into it to be able to take the load the pump needs to bring the top up. I dont know much about all of that so I am looking for the best way to wire up the convertible top so I can eliminate this problem. Does anyone know what is the proper way to do this? Please be as specific as possible as I am not a guru when it comes to electrical. Diagrams help too no matter how crude the drawing may be! Thanks in advance!

Unless you have a new pump, you more than likely have worn brushes in the pump. Mine does the same thing and everything is new including the factory 30 amp relay on the firewall. Only thing I have not done is replace the brushes in the pump or replace the pump.

So what your saying is your top goes down perfectly but when you try to put it back up it kicks out as well? Just dont understand why it would down very fast but struggles to go up and then cuts out power wise. When I disconnect the rams and let them freely ride up and down it goes down very fast but crawls up very very slowly, the power doesnt cut out but it still crawls up and with the weight or load of the top the switch cuts out..

that does not sound normal to be slow un hooked, have you checked to make sure it is full of fluid?

Well it looks like I will be tonight! Maybe there isnt enough fluid there to make it go up?
