Truth be told, Big Red was the inspiration behind Dust Off and Motiv8r made me believe I could actually build it. I think it could be reasonably argued that Big Red is the original Pro-Touring 1st Gen Camaro. When and where is this movie going to be released?

"Lines on the road just look like dots....."
They stole my idea....lol
Although it isn't a Nascar
Makes me want to drop an 800+hp SB2 in mine and have at it.
Do the Gottliebs still own the car? Wasn't RJ the driver 18 or something when they first unveiled the car and set all the records.

Could be argued I guess, but not much "touring" about that car and never was. The original Open Road Race Camaro is more like it.

I like your thinking.
some day that car will sell for 7 figures..
That's actually not a ridiculous statement.

That car has definitely a lot of heritage to it. None of it is for "touring" type events. That car is fired up, makes the run and shuts down.

Exactly. Big Red going out for a rip around Willow Springs is like the equivalent of one of us going out and doing a 27 second peanut autoX at a Goodguys event.

Big Red is my all time favorite car (and the reason I built my Camaro)! I keep praying it will make it to some of our Pro-touring events for some exhibition laps!

Picture from the Mojave Mile this weekend. They had to change a trans and clutch on Sunday morning.
Enjoy.

Ok, what's up with the exhaust splitters? Looks only or actual function for something?

The exhaust looks really low, but I guess for a straight track car it doesn't need too much suspension travel.

I made the assumption that they wanted 8" exhaust but needed flat tube to do it. So cut 4" in half and weld in 2" square. :dunno:

I remember reading about that car when I was in high school. Back then it had 540 IIRC and "just a 4 speed" as they put it. Then it went silent for many years. I heard it was coming out of retirement some time ago but never saw Anything about it. Nice to see it do the road course and the Texas mile.
I'm guessing by the license plate it has a 598 in it now and I saw a glimpse of a hogan sheet metal intake too.
That thing would sit beautifully right next to a 69 ZL1 and the sledgehammer corvette in my imaginary car collection :)

Whoever was 1st, Big Red and Stielow did inspire many of us (especially those of us too young to remember Trans Am's glory days) to make these old cars handle.

My Camaro inspirations :
The Penske Sunoco Trans Am Series Camaros.
Big Red
Mark Steilow's cars ,The Red Witch , The Mule , Jackass , The Red Devil .
Stacy Tucker's 69 Camaro Detroit Speed Test Car .

All the above! I had a Koni racing suspension, LT-1 in my first 71 RS camaro in 1984, I was inspired by the Trans Am series when I was like six or seven....
But Big Red has business written all over it! Sic!

Big Red will be back in Mojave again next weekend just FYI(June 1st) If anyone nearby wants some more photo ops.
Make sure to spread that trailor around, this film is the type that obviously car lovers will enjoy but even non car-nuts that have seen clips seem entranced.
Did anyone see the newer "Big Red" Camaro? LS3 supercharged I believe... but the guy that built it wouldnt run it.
I took a few pictures of it, but they are on my phone. Pretty cool little toy I thought :smoke:. But its definitly NOT The Original Outlaw Racer.
some day that car will sell for 7 figures..
The chances are it will be destroyed and never rebuilt WAY before it is ever sold. I think its too much of a family heirloom.... but anything could happen.
But I could see someone offering 7 figures for it SOMEDAY
Anyway, first post here. Saw the thread on Google and decided to pop in.
If anyone is going to be in Mojave next weekend, stop by Big Red's stall, there almost always hats and shirts for BR fans.
Hope to see you guys there!

Wish I could be there. I'm a huge Big Red fan but I'm a Ford guy. That car is timeless and recal watching the silver state challenge movies. I would hope true car guys would respect it enough to let the family keep it and not try to buy it from them.

Thanks for posting the Big Red trailer! I love that car. It is the inspiration behind my old '68 and also what inspired me to write my book on Pro-touring...which turned into a career of writing. So I guess Big Red has driven my life since the first time I saw it in Car Craft magazine back in 1988!

My favorite car. Should be a cool movie. Another great movie is "Love The Beast" by Eric Bana about his Ford Falcon.

This is truly the origin of pro-touring for most of us, before Big Red nobody really made an old Muscle Car run with new Ferraris and Corvettes at a top-speed event, let alone beat them badly (220MPH in the 1990s?). An epic car AND driver. Inspires me to want to build a car that doesn't just compete, but kicks ass....

Lets not forget about what Bobby Isaac did in a 69 Dodge Daytona in 1969. That has inspired me as well, I also love Big Red.

Big Red beat out a twin turbocharged Lambo which went 230 2 years ago.
This weekend, Big Red and RJ Gottlieb Pulled off a 232.4 MPH run.
That's 0 - 232.4 in a single standing mile.
Also this month's Issue of Hot Rod Mag features Big Red. The Team was invited by Hot Rod Magazine and Chevy to go up against the new Z28.
This "Movie" will most likely become a series on some network.
Here is another "teaser episode". Enjoy Guys!
