What size tire on 9 inch wide rim

I've got 17x9 wheels and i was wondering whats the widest i can run. Ive bought nitto 555's for the front and back. The front is fine at 255 but im concerned about the back 285. Ive been told i can run them on a 9 inch rim but im not 100%. Any input?

I would stick with 275's to keep the sidewalls at a good angle.

If you already bought the 285's, they will work, just make sure the clear the inner fenders

i had 285/40's on a 9.5" wide wheel with no problems, so wouldn't worry on a wheel that was 1/2" narrower.
