Hey guys. I'm going to go LS but not for at least a couple years. Will used engines get cheaper in the future once the next generation of motors show up or do you think pricing will be the same or more as today because of less supply?

I don't see how they can get any cheaper - the 4.8's and 5.3's can be had complete with all accessories, harness and computer from $150 up. A friend of mine just bought a 2010 5.3 with 15,000 mi on it for $150 with everything!

Where did he pickup a complete engine for $150, that doesn't sound right at all.

A local guy had it according to what he told me. If I hadn't seen the motor I wouldn't have believed it myself. I actually have the starter from the engine sitting in my garage on loan. This guy is all the time finding good deals on 5.3's. He's also got 2-3 sets of 243 heads. I tried to buy a set but he's not selling for anywhere near what he paid for them. He got his last set for less than $300 for the pair off a low mileage 5.3.

Yes I know the 4.8 and 5.3s are about as cheap as can be. I should of clarified I guess. I was wondering if the ls3 l92 etc engines that are more like 3 to 4 k would possibly get cheaper in the future. My hunch is the pricing won't change much even 10 years from now.

i cant see demand/pricing getting lower until its easy to swap a direct injection motor in instead of the ls motors. its going to take a few years for the aftermarket to catch up. the ls motors are 15 years old and some in the aftermarket still cant get it right.

I dont see them getting less expensive either. I have customers buying my LS drop out packages for everything under the sun!...and I do literally mean everything under the sun! I used to be shocked to hear of a new/odd vehicle getting a LS swap....but not anymore. These motors are going in everything. It will be interesting to see how the supply is affected and relates to pricing.

I don't see the prices getting any lower. I paid $2500 for my LS1 with 40,000 verified miles about 4 years ago. You really can't beat that for a low mileage aluminum engine.
