View Full Version : spare tire
What do you guys do if you're at a track day/race and you get a flat? Do you guys have spares? Do you carry a spare when you're on a sunday cruise? I come from the off road world so I'm used to carrying two spares. Don't want to get stranded in Baja.
Thanks,
Richard

I carry a 17" spare from a '05 GTO. It fits, the wheel is aluminum, its fairly light, and it even looks cool. I got it on ebay for about 100 bucks. Its worth it, and the little extra weight in the rear helps the balance of the car a bit too.
I guess I should give more detail. Fronts are 18x8(275/35/18) and rears are 18x12(335/30/18) both with custom backspacing. So getting a spare would be an investment that I'm willing to do if necessary. I guess my real question is how often do you guys get flats? In off roading a flat tire is a very normal occurrence so you have to bring many spares with to a race. If you guys never really get flats then spending thousands on a front and rear spare many not be worth it.

If you drive on the street, you will probably get a flat at some point. Why spend big bucks? A spare is meant to get you home or to a tire shop for the most part. Try to match the rear diameter with your spare if you can to avoid wearing out your limited slip. If you are serious about racing, then you will probably bring at least one full extra set of wheels and tires to the track.
thanks dude!!! That's about what I was thinking.

I found that a spare tire from a corvette, i think 88 or 89 works. i picked one up because i am going to use big front brakes and i think this spare will clear the rotors on big brakes. dont quote me on the year but i think it was 88-89.
