Hi everyone,
I am a student in university and recently acquired my dream car, a clean 1966 mustang coupe! I am planning to get it safe and reliable first so I picked up a set of brakes from a 2006 mustang GT, but now I need a set of 17 inch rims. I keep seeing all your beautiful rushforths, forgelines, NewGens, and others but I am not in the place financially to be able to afford them. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good brands or wheels for a pro-touring look with y-spokes or 5-8 spoked rims. I only need 17x7 and 17x8 in the back if I choose to stagger them, so that should hopefully keep the price down. My range is $200-300 and I have my eyes on a set of TSW interlagos (if 17x7.5 is not too wide for the front), do you pro-touring champions have any opinions on TSWs or any other types of rims you think would fit my budget? Thank you all in advance!

Unique 297s or Cragar Soft 8s(same wheel/different center cap). They are more of a truck style wheel and they are steel but they are only about 100 each. You could maybe get some late model mustang wheels and use spacers. I like the look of the 03/04 mach 1 wheels on the 60s mustangs. Recently picked up a set for my wife's 02 mustang with almost new tires for $400.

I like the modern mustang rim idea as well but I have been told they are all 17x8 or 17x9 which would be fine but 66s can not have such rims in the front without extensive modifications, which is where my problems are. Thanks though I do like the soft 8s but I wanted to go with a more modern looking rim. My car is Wimbledon white with a blue and white pony interior and those wheels would be too brute for the rest of the car. Thanks for your input fiream400

I got my wheels from discounttire.com. MB 'old school' 17x8 and 17x9.5. They were $150 or less, each! I had them wrapped in Nitto 555's and got the whole set delieverd to my door. I've bought at least 3 different sets of MB wheels and ALL have been excellent. They're a great budget wheel.. light too.

I've got a set of TSW Londrina's and really like them. One word of caution with TSW. Make sure they have the wheels in stock when you place the order. If not you may end up back ordered while they order and ship the castings from China.

Vintage Wheel Works V48's would look nice on your Mustang. Little over your budget, but you can do custom backspace and they are top quality.

Same here! Do a Google Image search for "MB Old School" and the white 1969 Cutlass that comes up is mine.

Also check out BG Rod Works, which I think Discount tire also carries.

Or American Racing Daytona.

Not sure about that.. MB makes wheels for Discount Tire.. yes the Old School wheels look just like a Coys wheel though... they probably just ripped Coys off.

Thank you for the recommendations, but I was looking for something a little bit newer looking. A Y-spoke or something like the TSW interlagos I photoshopped in another thread, nothing tuner just not something resembling a torque thrust. My dad always had TTs on his cars and I do not want to copy him. That is an interesting fact on those rims, small world! You all have such beautiful cars, is that corvette hood scoop custom Rod?

American Racing Torque Thrust II's are pretty affordable and you can order them in whatever backspacing you want .

The VNCL2 05 is what I have on my Camaro ..

Here's my 68 with TSW Nurburgrings. I wanted to do something different. I didn't really care for them that much when I first put them on, but now I love them. I got mine through http://www.bigwheels.net. Disclaimer: My neighbor owns the company. They were SUPER helpful. Since they are local they let me try a bunch of sizes, backspaces and mounted bald tires till I got the perfect fit. Prices were great on the wheels and so-so on the tires. The service more than made for the difference on tires though. If you go with something like this, don't forget to include the price of wheel adapters (and use ET Lugs).

That thing looks great campindog.

My suggestion would have been the older Cobra wheels or XXR might make something with a decent fitment on the cheap.

Damn campindog your mustang always looks great, nice highback seats and beautiful rims but still distinctly a muscle car and not a space ship like some restomods! I was going to go with the interlagos but I think coupe's need a little lip to look "right" in my opinion and the TSWs do not have that.

CKreations I have been looking for those but the ones I seem to like are all 17x9 which is impossible to fit and there is nowhere to get my wheels shortened around where I live. I have looked at XXR, do you know how they are quality wise?

i have owned two sets of XXR wheels so far and while everyone bashes on them they seem to be a decent wheel just to put around on.

Im not sure what you need as far as backspacing but what about stock mustang FR500's or 10th aniv. cobra wheels? oewheelsllc.com has cheap ($550/set) knockoffs that i have seen countless of times and haven't heard any poor reviews.

Thanks I will check out those XXRs a little more seriously now! Yea I love the FR500s, and even had a pair of 10th anniversary cobra rims on my 03 V6 but the smallest they come in is 17x9. I can only put on 17x8s and there is nowhere around me that I can get rims shortened unfortunately. Thank you for the suggestions though I wish I could get some FR500s under my car it would be exactly the look I am going for

Which one's have you owned ?? Got any pics ??

I'm looking at the XXR 526's to see if they will fit on my 78 Camaro.

When I was searching for wheels someone here directed me to this site. They have NICE wheels starting around $120 (!) each. I ended up with the MB Old Schools as well to avoid adapters, but these will bolt right onto your car. They have both old school and new style wheels, check it out!

Also there are several "tuner" wheels that are available in a 17x7 that have dual bolt patterns of 5 on 100mm and 5 on 4.5". You may need a spacer to get the offset right though, and not sure if they'd be available in a 17x8.
