I will be upgrading my 70 El Camino with some new rims and tires. I will be going with a 18 x 8 front rim with a 255/45/18 and a 18 x 9.5 with a 285/40/18. What brand do you recommend?

thanks Pete

What end use? Daily driver? I have Sumitomo 285/35-18's on my '02 T/A and I put a set of Nexxus 275/40-17's (made by Michelin) on my wifes '94 Formula. I am happy with both. Do a little research and check Tire Rack and eBay. You can get these things pretty cheap if you do some looking. I got the Sumi's from TireRack for 112 apiece! And the Nexxi (?) Off Ebay WITH RIMS! for a grand shipped...

Check into Nitto's as well. I am running 255/50 and 275/50-17's on my '95 Sierra and have had no issues or complaints with those either. Very nice handling tires in the dry or wet.
One thing I noticed with the Suni's on the T/A is they do hook better then the Michelins that were on the car when I bought it. I put a set of 3.73's in the car, finished the exhaust (long tubes with a full 2 1/2 into a Magnaflow and had it dyno tuned (375 horse) and it would blaze the Michelins. The Sumi's will spin a bit but then hook right up and go. :)

Nitto 555's here.. very happy with them. Also you can't go wrong with a BFG tire. They are more expensive but have always been happy with them too.

x2 on the Nitto 555's. Great tire in my opinion.

I have been running the BFG G-force Sport and I love them. Good wear, decent in the rain and enough grip for my limited talents. The new Comp 2 is the replacement for the G-force Sport, and those still maintain the same tread wear rating while seeming to have more grip that the previous model. Good tire, though I do not know they make anything wider that a 275 in an 18" rim. Good luck!
