Why are are the 1st gen brake kits designed to be used with drum spindles? Is there and advantage in not having the bearings and 'hub' within the rotor? I guess I don't see te point in re-using 35 year old spindles when logic dictates buying new disk type spinldes and rotors. Am I over thinking this?

Tim, Look at David Pozzi's page, it will show you the differences in the hub height's the disc spindle is too long and the spacing would be wrong for the caliper and bracketry, I might have this backwards, look at the site it explains a lot, I will car you later, I'm going to go to PSJ and then come see you, Steve

You could use disk spindles you would just have to make a spacer for the upper boss.

Most aftermarket companies assume that you don't have disc to begin with.
The upper boss is not flush with the lower boss. just like brian said. like the new avatar b

I know that the Wilwood six piston kit it made to be used and shipped for both spindles. I thought I had drum spindles until I put the caliper bracket on and noticed around .500 gap. I then used the supplied spacer.
