I figured it was time I introduced my '69 Corvette...

A little background on the car: I bought it when I was 16. It had no brakes, no interior, the suspension was dry rotted and it ran on 7 cylinders. At least the paint was nice! Look at that ride height!
https://static2.pt-content.com/images/pt/2018/07/HPIM1584-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/HPIM1544-1.jpg

Fast forward past the restoration stuff, and it now has new brakes, a Vette Brakes & Products monoleaf suspension kit, 17" torque thrust wheels, and a healthy 350/m20 4 speed
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/DSCF0791-1.jpg

So from here on Ill be updating this thread with modifications that make the car more of a streetfighter, and less an average restoration. As for the name, I think the '69 has the best styling cues of all of the C3 vettes. What did you think I meant? :ssst:

I made a splitter to help keep the front end down at speed, and keep the brakes cool:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/DSCF1191-1.jpg

I made this piece from the factory dust shield:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/DSCF1164-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/DSCF1183-1.jpg

After that I ran the car at the first annual RTTS. I had some oil control issues so I couldnt run the car too hard, but I still had a blast! So in preparation for this years RTTS I got a nice Canton Road Race oil pan. It performed awesome on the track and held a rock solid oil pressure.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/03/31c1c6b7-1.jpg

I also got this sweet billet oil cooler thermostat. I didnt get to install it before RTTS, but I will now. Especially since my oil temps were climbing pretty high after multiple hard laps on the track.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/03/1e5d0890-1.jpg

I also ditched the stock seats for some much more supportive Corbeau A4's. I love these!

During one of my last runs at RTTS, I had coolant coat my windshield. Turned out to be my head gasket.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/a09a19ff-1.jpg

At least I had my new wheels to look forward to when I got it back home. This is just a mock-up. Ive got a set of spacers/adapters ordered. The wheels are BMW M-Parallels 18x9.5 with 285 Nitto NT555's all around :smoke:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/f0b4c99e-1.jpg

As of yesterday, the rear suspension is out to help improve the stock IRS characteristics

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/caa1cd66-1.jpg

Im notching the diff crossmember to raise the diff up. This puts the half shafts closer to the recommended position to minimize toe-change under cornering.

Chris,

Pumped to see you having a build thread over here too! Quick question on the A4's - do they mimic the position of the stock seats well? I've been thinking about getting a pair for my vette but at 6'4 I'm already close to the t-tops with the stock seats and I'm afraid that these would push me both up and forward...

Want to make a second splitter? :)

The only reason I'm going to replace that radiator is because I can get an aluminum one that weighs less. That JB weld holds up good! Haha

Thanks Eric! The A4's are definitely a tight fit. I'm not sure how comfortable you would be with a helmet on in these seats. I have some pictures that I'll post later today of how I modified the stock tracks to get these to sit lower.
As for my splitter... The current one is a very rough "prototype". I am eventually going to make it into a mold and make a nicer one... I'll keep you in mind when I do that

I have a spare crossmember ready to notch sitting in the garage..I'm just holding off because I know once the diff is out I'll want to fab up the top 6-link bracket...and so on..and so on ..next thing you know its winter!

Dont get me started... Im already having a hard time trying to keep this project from escalating. I would like to do some alu. halfshafts, strut rods with heim ends, and johnny joints in the T/A's but that might keep me off the road even longer.

Eric- Heres the pics of the modified seat tracks. With these I measured 34" from the ass of the seat to the top of the T-top (no liner)

Been working on this project during my down time at the shop (alot, unfortunately). I have been trying to work on a way to use the stock crossmember bushings to raise the diff. The main reason for doing it this way was because I have a dual mount spring, and I wanted to lower the car more without getting longer spring bolts.

I actually did notch the crossmember, before changing my mind to do the bushings instead. Here was the notch (1"):
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/caa19fb1-1.jpg
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/87c2fe12-1.jpg

Scrapped that idea since it looks like I will be able to get almost 3/4" with the bushing mods. Hopefully that will give me the stance that Im after, and get the half shafts at a more reasonable angle.
Heres the crossmember mocked up to the frame with the sombrero-looking part of the frame hammered flat:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/91d63284-1.jpg

Heres a modded bushing... The lip is sliced and hammered flat so that it can recess into the crossmember:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/8cd7308b-1.jpg

Heres where Im at now... This bushing has the tabs that fold over cut off approximately right at the bend to show how recessed the bushing is:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/81451782-1.jpg

I plan on replicating the tabs on the bottom to attach the bushings to the crossmember, and then I will run the aluminum disks that I had previously.

Any other ideas on how to locate the crossmember without using these bushings (or having a piece of rubber/poly lathe-cut to fit) are welcome

I saw you go "four off" at RTTS and all I could think of was that custom front air dam! I was glad to see it was still intact when you came back in. I like the new wheels too by the way.

Been making some slow progress... I gave up on getting my stock bushings to work with the crossmember, so Im going to make a set on my buddies lathe. In the mean time, Im trying to knock a few other things off my list for the rear suspension. My current ride height is pretty close to the bumpstops, meaning the shocks are close to bottoming as well. So I notched the frame tonight and made a new shock mount.

Just need to finish welding it in, clean it up, paint it and it will be good to go.

One of my friends invited me to a SCDA at LimeRock on the 31st... Thats my deadline to have the car running and setup. I missed RTOS so Id really like to try to make this one. Fingers crossed...

I also got some of my AN fittings in for my oil cooler. What do you think of this hose movement? It is the least I could get it to move after a few tries. The hose was pushed all the way to the bottom of the threads on the red piece. (This is my first time using AN stuff) The hose is -10

Thanks! Still waiting for my custom adapters to come in so I havent even mounted them yet. Im excited to see how the 285's fit up front.
Ive hit so many things with that splitter, I am surprised its still in one piece! The support rods do take a beating though

Made a little progress on the oil cooler tonight... I finished my tabs to mount it to the bumper bracket:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/05/c0c7ffbf-1.jpg

Its hard to see in this picture, but I also made the lower part of the duct to try to direct all of the airflow through the cooler. I still need to make something for the top.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/05/b8209f07-1.jpg

The rest of my AN fittings should be here tomorrow so I can get the lines routed, put in the thermostat, and cross this project of the list!

I hope you've kept those bumpstops. You're awfully close to that tire getting into the fender.

vette427-sbc

Bumpstops have been shaved and the shock mount lowered to allow for more suspension travel... No fender rub even at full lock and compression :smoke:
They do rub my brake ducts at full lock so Im going to have to trim out some of the inner fender to fix that

I pulled a head today to start inspecting the damage from RTTS... That head gasket sure doesnt look too good. Any ideas on what might cause this to happen? The car never got over 195 all day, although my oil temps were up in the 240's at some points. My water temp sensor is in the passenger head, this is the drivers side head, where the fan turn on switch is located.

Riggs- What is your fender height in the rear? Im finding out the hard way that it is quite difficult to run 285's while being this low. I still have to work out the new bumpstop height so Ive been driving around with alot of rear suspension travel... Maybe too much :hand:

OUCH, That left a mark.
My wheels tuck up into the wheel well pretty tight, I have had it bottom out before and rub the inner frame rail and a slight rub on the outer side wall against the inside of the fender lip. I recently raised the rear of the car to compensate for the weight loss of the LS swap so I should be in much better shape against tire rub.
The car is up on jack stands right now due to the rebuild of the LS, so I would be able to get any measurements at this time. If it helps here is what I am running on the back, 285/40/18 on 18X10 rim with a 5.5 back space, I am also running a 3/8'' spacer to center the wheel in the wheel well.

Been super busy at the shop lately, which is good, but leaves little time to work on the vette...
I threw the rear suspension back in the car with the modified stock bushings just so I could drive it around, but I dont think its track worthy with those in there so I picked up some T6061 aluminum to make a set of new bushings.
Anyone need some aluminum? Ill have a 6" dia x 1ft long piece leftover...

Hawk HP Plus pads, Goodridge braided lines, a tow strap and a sheet of Ti to make some brake pad backing plates. Front pads, lines, and backing plates are cut and in as of a few minutes ago. And Im flushing the brakes as I type... Just waiting on my SPC upper control arms to show up and the front end should be all set for some serious abuse!

Not much of an update... I hate to take the car off the road for long periods so Im waiting for a few more parts to come in before I tear it down for some more suspension and brake work. In the meantime, I made some new t-top headliners. These weigh a bit less than the stock headliner pieces and give me more headroom for when I have my helmet on. I wrapped them in some Alcantara I got from Gulf Fabrics.

Crossed another little project off the list! Lightweight halfshafts... I had some HD Spicer steel shafts in there which were heavy as hell. 80 bucks on ebay got me 2 C4 vette half shafts shipped to me, and another $120 to shorten them to C3 length. I really need to get a scale so I can document all my lbs lost... The new shafts seemed to be at least half the weight of the previous ones. And that counts as overall vehicle weight, un-sprung weight and rotating mass!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/10/789BE09E836447A8841EA3909558D51F23710000-1.jpg

Ive been smelling tire rub going around hard corners and big dips... I bumped up the rear spring rate a little so Ill see how that works out, otherwise it looks like I need to modify the wheel tub to be wider and taller.

Finally got to thrash on it again!
Just got back from the Kerbeck Corvette Toys for Tots gathering where they had the southern NJ SCCA running an auto-x. I am really happy with the way the car performed and now have some seat of the pants data to start fine tuning the suspension.

Kind of a shame that out of hundreds of corvettes, only a handful hit the auto x

I think I really do like working on this car as much as I do driving it! Back apart again, for the rest of the season this time. The plan is to hit the whole interior with some kind of sound deadener and make a custom wire harness from a universal painless kit with lots of cool gadgets . Still undecided on weather or not I should put a roll bar in an already very tight interior... Im leaning towards yes and having the_dan tig one up for me at his shop.

Also dropping a few lbs with a lightweight steering column support from a later vette. About a 5lb difference:

Spent a few hours re-routing the wiring from the painless universal harness... Going to have to cut and extend a few things since alot of electronics were moved around from conventional locations. Fuse panel is moved to the top of the trans tunnel. There is an interior panel that goes right in front to conceal it, but still have good access to it. Should be much better than tucked all the way up under the dash.

Picked up some of the audio equipment yesterday too... Trying to keep it super simple, but still have some nice sound quality. Im putting 2 Infinity 6.5" woofers in the kick panels, and the tweeters in the dash where the factory vents used to be (I only use the foot and defrost vents anyway). Fed by just an iPhone with the JL Audio volume control to a super small and lightweight Kicker 100W 2 channel amp.

Thanks! Super nice pieces, but my order got lost or something so turn around time was a little slow... they admitted to messing up. ***** happens and it shows alot that they came clean. I would deal with them again

Doesnt look like much has changed but most wires are now routed properly, and I think* I have everything wired properly. Crossing my fingers that everything works as it should when I hook up a battery!

The most time consuming thing so far would be making everything serviceable and removable as if it came from the factory like this. I dont really ever picture myself taking any of this apart again, and probably no one else will see any of it. But knowing that its done right makes me sleep at night.

This is the circuit board and controller for the in-dash shift light and on-the-fly rev limiter control. Added plugs for all of the different in/outputs.

Santa brought me a few corvette goodies. Some AeroCatch hood latches, and a set of Corbeau 4 point retractable locking harnesses
It took me a few days to build up the courage to chop up a nice original BB hood, but the deed is done and Im glad I did it. Now I can feel a little better about cutting up the front part of the hood for the head extractor radiator setup.

Hey Cris I gotta say I love what your doing.
I have been a Corvette Tech for 18 years now and I have met few guys that use their Vette for what it was intended for. Racing!!!
You said; "Kind of a shame that out of hundreds of corvettes, only a handful hit the auto x" and I concur. When we would have our Corvette Fest you could tell when the new zo6's we doing the 1/4 mile in 14.5 sec they didn't know what they were doing and/or didn't want to hurt their car. :)
Performance cars were meant to perform. You have the perfect idea as to what your Vette was meant for.
I have talk to **** Guldstrand many times throughout the years and he has always said one thing; "Race car guys take a car and rip it apart to make it lighter and faster." That is exactly what he has been doing since 1964. Love that old guy.

Anyway, Kudos to you.

vette427-sbc
01-27-2013, 03:37 PM
Thanks Kacy!
And Toby- I have only met a small handful of other corvette owners that actually race their cars. Thanks for the Kudos!

More progress!
This is one of the very few things that I have farmed out to have someone else do for me. Im glad I did though because I dont think I could have done a nicer job so far. My goal is to have a simple roll cage just for my personal safety and chassis stiffening. My car is on street duty 90% of the time so it has to be very tight and unobtrusive too. I dont plan on racing in any events that require a cage but when I do open track days I like it for my own peace of mind. It is based loosely off of SCCA specs. Very pleased with how its coming out so far...

Sorry for some of the crappy cell phone pics

All 1.75x.095 chromemoly. He said he was able to remove the entire rear hoop + rear legs from the car so it will be fully welded by tomorrow so I can paint everything outside the car before it goes back in. Then I get to take the car back to my shop, pull the motor so he has front frame access and get started on the halo, a-pillar bars and dash bar.

Looks good but I don't like how the tube sits over the open area between the slugs. Would be better if you welded that area up to be 1 big flush surface

vette427-sbc
01-28-2013, 07:55 PM
I agree its not ideal, but I dont think it will be too much of an issue... the plate the tubing is welded to is as thick or thicker than the frame material so I dont think there is any strength difference (in compression) compared to welding the tube right to the frame. A side load is going to be slightly weaker due to the plate overhanging the surface in some areas but if you look at this pic it shows how close the main hoop tubing is to the slugs. It doesnt overhang on the front, just the back.

Rear bar is fully welded and ready for a quick spray paint then back in to get the front half done.

Great build so far!! My dad and I restored a 76 Vette when I was in high school. Broke my heart when he had to sell it.

Yours looks great! I love the wheels and splitter. Definitely don't envy the interior work, though. I hope you're short. Myself and my dad are both 6'4", so crawling under the dash to install stuff was a huge pain.

One question: do you have any issues with road debris getting into the brake cooling ducts and messing things up?

Nice work Chris !!

I am a little curious how you fit in the car with helmet on.

It is going to be close, but I am planning to have the cage routed in a way that should not make it any tighter than having the stock interior pieces in (not running any headliner pieces). The rear hoop is 1/8" away from the top of the birdcage and the rest of the cage will be just as tight. It helps that I am pretty short but I mocked everything up with a helmet on in my driving position and still had some room to move around.

Guys good. Looks good, sorry my brother is so lazy he never got on doing it. Still waiting on him to get a truck out of my shop from October. His loss. Your gain

Thanks! People think Im crazy when they see my feet coming out of the t-tops when Im working under the dash. They must have had contortionists working at GM when they put these things together
I have some screens that cover the ducts, and I do see leaves and stuff collect there sometimes but I dont think Ive had any rocks or anything get up there... The tubing goes up pretty far so the debris would have to have some serious velocity to go up then over then back down to the rotor.

I feel like Im making good progress but my list of things to do (and buy :hand:) keeps getting longer. I dont think the muncie will be going back in this time... Ive got a few T56 parts gathered up so I think im going to go through with that when the motor goes back in. I may take the radiator out and see what kind of fitment issues I would have if I went for a heat extractor hood/radiator setup.

This is pretty close to the stock size radiator (about 16" X 29"). This will not work with the reverse opening hood though. I would really like to use something like a 13" x 30" (less weight and will probably work with my stock hood opening configuration). Im just worried it wont keep the car cool enough when Im sitting in beach traffic. Is there a rule of thumb on radiator size/ hp or something like that?

Yes I would prefer to use the double pass since I want the inlet and outlet on the same side (passenger) BUT I dont know if they make a double pass that is 13" or shorter. If they do I havent found one yet.
And thanks! The "spreader bar" between the control arms makes a big difference in frame flex. Very popular mod to these vettes since the motor sits so far back in the frame.

Like Flash said, to provide more torsional resistance by adding some "height" to the frame structure. I think Im going to have to do something like 1.25" tubing across instead of the 1.75 like the rest. Anything is better than nothing.

Yeah its off the car now for some touch-up work... I need to figure out how to make a mold and what material to make the bottom flat piece. It was a laminated wood but got water logged after many incidents scraped off the resin I had coated it in. Im thinking of doing an abs plastic this time but I cant find any in big enough sheets. Ive got a few people interested in them so I have a little push to get the mold made.

Finished the last part of my "radio" install... I made this dock to replace the factory radio opening so I can charge and play music from my iPhone. Pandora, Sirius/XM, Iheart radio, etc... along with whatever navigation app I want to run. I also have an aux port for other audio devices. The signal goes through a JL audio pre-amp/volume control and a super small kicker 100W amp. The inside is trimmed in foam-backed Alcantara to match the rest of the trim in the interior. It sure will suck when/if I decide to get the iphone 5 though...

Putting in some late nights this past few days... Wiring is back in and most of the functions tested... the car now has keyless entry, alarm, RFID push to start, "supervision" lighting when walking up to and away from the car, and power windows with automatic down from the key fob. Im really happy how all the wiring came out and functions. Nothing caught on fire either when I hooked the battery up :thankyou:
Still some more to tidy up but I am waiting to run the engine and headlight harnesses before tying everything up. I also got a new battery for my birthday! 16lb Oddessy PC680. Im have heard mostly good things about these, I hope it holds up for everyday driving and will last at least a few days with the few mA the alarm draws when the car is off.

Today was pretty slow at the shop, so I decided to take up the whole garage tonight (keeps me motivated to get it movable again by tomorrow:lmao:) Got the T56 mocked up with a spare block. Its tight, but fits in the tunnel without modification. Now I just have to figure out an x-member for it.

Thanks guys

My interest in a heat extractor hood has peaked again too... We have a Jeep Cherokee with a blown motor so the radiator was out. I didnt think about it until tonight when I saw it out of the car. Its probably 1/3rd the weight of my copper radiator, but just a hair too wide. Otherwise its near perfect. I might have to go junkyard shopping this summer for some late model radiators.

Isnt there a member here that builds custom radiators? Is it Sparky RnD or something like that? Its not looking like I have many (if any) options in terms of off the shelf radiators

Spent a solid 10 hours in the shop today... Sundays are nice. No customer appointments and no one walking in to bother me. :)
I have a bunch of parts on order, one of them being a Vintage Air Gen 2 heater. Everything will be inside the car, so I had to fill in the huge hole in the firewall where the old heater was. Im getting better at this fiberglassing stuff.
You can kind of see the outline where the old hole was. A skim coat of bondo over the center where all the drip marks are, trim up the area around the roll cage, and it will be good to go.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/03/9BA79171F70441678BF697ABDB7F9B2449100000-1.jpg

Next I had to relocate the seat belt mounts for my new Corbeau retractable harnesses... The factory spot was too close to the seat and the roll cage was in the way a bit, so I made a 3 sided "cup" to grab the lower corner of the floor/trunk area. Welded a bolt to the top, riveted it in, and the harness retractors are done!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/03/DCFF1DC542FF4CEDA9DBADBC4C8BFFDA49100000-1.jpg

Am I crazy to want to try and have this car done with all the bugs worked out for the Southern Slam? Im getting close I think :fingersx:

Doesnt look like much, but about 80% of the interior is done. Im waiting to put the motor and trans in before I bolt the center console plate back in and plug in a few switches. I think Im going to leave the pass side and upper dash pad off for a while in case anything goes wrong with all the new electronics and wiring. I did sit in it for a good hour with the radio on pretending to drive it :rotfl:

And here is my custom Hurst Billet Plus shifter... Its going to be VERY close to the bottom of the console plate so I may have to shave a bit off the top of the shifter stop piece to get it to fit. I had the guy who did my cage make this for me. Another work of art!

Thanks Flash! Its a PC680 so its supposed to be 680 CCA. We will see. I have an alarm that flashes an LED when the cars locked, so there will always be a very small current draw on it. If it can go a week without a trickle charge I will be very happy. I usually drive the car everyday in the summer/fall anyway and winter time Ill have it on a charger or just pulled out of the car.

Sorry, I looked on Amazon and said it is 220 cold cranking amps.

Now I looked on Odyssey and it shows 680 cranking amps and a 220 cold cranking amps (even the battery itself in your photo posted looks like it says 220 on that top number but it's really small).

Overall I think it has nice specs for a balance of power, size and price. Nice find.

Ahh yes I remember reading something about their CCA rating... youre right it is 220. I did a good amount of research on them and there are a few people running big v8 cars with them. I think the biggest issue with these is making sure they are charged with the correct type of charger

Major progress today! Finally took the car out for a drive... Not 100% together, but enough to lay some rubber real quick!
First impressions:
12lb flywheel is awesome and really not difficult at all to drive around with. The car revs noticeably faster.
Oddessy PC680T Battery is awesome- You would never know this battery is only 16lbs and the size of a lawn mower battery. I did put a gear reduction mini starter in, but it still gets the job done and then some. The wiring isnt done yet so I keep disconnecting the battery at night but I dont think it will have any problem holding a charge with my alarm on for multiple days of no driving.
T56- Not used to the extra 2 gears yet, but I only had it on a local highway where the speed limit is 50, so with 3.55's I really wasnt turning any rpms to need 5th or 6th. Shifter feels great though!
the clutch is the only thing Im not 100% happy with... its just too light. I think I may have a little bit of air in it still as 1st gear will sometimes clunk going in.
The cage will take some getting used to but I think its going to be something that Ill just forget its even there after a while.
Possibly my favorite update on the car is the electronics... For some reason I really get a kick out of having modern electronics and gadgets in an old car. Power windows, power locks, push start, alarm, keyless entry, remote window control, LED supervision lighting... I feel like I am one of few that really enjoys working on and designing automotive electronics.

Crappy pic, but I wanted to get out of the shop before 11pm tonight for once... More pics soon though Feels good to be able to drive this car again :bananna2::6gears:

Ive got a few hundred miles on the car now and everything is going somewhat smooth... The 6 speed really transforms the car. I no longer look at an hour long drive somewhere as a trip. Its more like just a cruise now. (and the gas mileage isnt too bad either!) My one complaint is since the cage is so tight to the body a large bump will cause it to rattle. I spent alot of time making sure this car doesnt rattle so that is something Ill have to work out to at least quiet it down.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/07/null_zps970f9e2e-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/null_zps970f9e2e.jpg.html)

Now for the not great part... Ive been having some issues with the trans not being perfect. It clunks going into 1st if I dont put it into another gear before. Then there is an intermittent vibration/scratching/grinding noise coming from the clutch I think. It will do it in any gear when the clutch is depressed. I was going to give it a few more miles to kind of wear in, but it looks like the trans is coming out anyway... I went for a nice hour long cruise with my dad and we happened to get lined up at the toll booth. 1st and 2nd gear hooked up but I banged it into 3rd and the RPMs skyrocketed up like I missed a shift. Tried putting the car in 3rd right at the beginning of my power band and nailed it; clutch slipped like crazy. So Im going to pull it and tear the trans apart to check everything out and get the first gear clunk fixed. There is an oil leak at the back of my oil pan so I think I may have leaked some oil onto the clutch? Well see...
Heres a quick pic after I got a little beat-down on the parkway by my dad. Its a pretty fast brick! Also, I know this isnt the greatest pic to showcase these, but here are the BlackFlameCustoms HID projectors we got for the '55. Really changes the look of the car and they make such a difference driving at night!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/07/null_zps10334ece-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/1955%20Chevy%20Hardtop/null_zps10334ece.jpg.html)

And now to add even more little gadgets to the vette, I now have complete control of the car right from my phone anywhere in the world. Lock, unlock, ignition disarm, and even remote window down! Really cool feature if I ever lose my key fob, or if I have my keys with me and someone else needs to move my car, I can let them in from my phone. I even get an instant text message if something sets off the alarm and I cant see or hear it.
I also picked up a broken iPhone that Im just going to leave docked in the car. I jailbroke it so I can have almost everything in the landscape mode. No data plan either, I just link it with my personal iphone to get internet so I can listen to radio and other internet music along with the google maps app for navigation.

Back in action and driving again!
Put in a new clutch disk, fixed ALL of my oil leaks and got a bunch more tweaks done...
Cant find the picture but I tied the cage into the birdcage (windshield frame for you non corvette folk). That made a big difference in rattles and squeaks. As of now I am almost rattle free :yeah:

Next on the list was to get some functioning turn signals... I picked up a pair of LED switch back 1157 bulbs. I like these ALOT. They use 4 white LEDs behind a magnifying lens to turn your parking lights into a fog light. Then when you activate the turn signals or hazards, the fog turns off and it will let it flash amber. They were $39 a bulb, but for pretty much a plug and play, I think they are worth it. They add alot of light at night. The only wiring mod I had to do to get these to work was to put a 50w resistor over the turn signal circuit for each side.
Here is just one side during the mockup stage:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/10/null_zps87750660-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/Corvette%20Restoration/null_zps87750660.jpg.html)

Small mod, but I think it changes the look quite a bit. I do have to give credit for this idea to Custom image corvettes. I saw it on a car they are doing and I really liked it.
Stock BB/LT1 hood:
83958

After:
I think it gives it a more modern look to the hood and hopefully will evacuate a bit more underhood pressure compared to my previously cut out stock vents

Also got most of my interior complete.
Modified the electric life window switches for +12v up and +12v down (they would backfeed (-) in stock config), put in a rocker switch to allow my oil temp gauge to swap between engine oil and trans oil.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/10/null_zpsc63eb299-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/Corvette%20Restoration/null_zpsc63eb299.jpg.html)

Got this on the other day to replace my holley 650 DP. Its a QuickFuel 650 Road race carb. Really nice piece and Im extremely impressed with its out of the box performance so far.

I also changed my iSimple IS76 Apple 30pin->RCA to the HRT iStreamer DAC. What a difference in sound! The other cool thing about the iphone "radio" is that the google maps voice guidance will attenuate whatever you are listening to to give you the next direction through the car speakers. Been putting alot of miles on it since I finished putting the clutch back in; about 600 since mid september. and the car is really so nice to drive. Minimal rattles, decently quiet on the highway with the windows up, the whole audio and nav system working together, it just makes for a pleasant driving experience. This is perfect driving season here on the east coast so I think Ill wait a little longer than last year before tearing it apart again :rotfl:

Do you have a diagram on wiring the LED fog/turn signal? I've been thinking about doing the same thing on the parking lights for my Firebird (but use it as DRL/turn signal).

Few more projects underway... After getting the black flame custom HID projectors for my dads car, I had to have a set for myself. I wanted to use a Morimoto projector (same as the one in the BFC 7" lights) but the stock corvette flip up lamp housing is way to tight to fit one of those so I wanted to see if I could make it work. After hours of modifying and trial fitting, I have a 5.75" light with a Morimoto projector in there! These in combination with the LED fog lights and the GE aircraft landing lights make nighttime driving sooo much nicer (and safer!)

Significantly deeper than a regular 5.75" lamp

High beam with the GE lights on. Ive seriously never driven with a better high beam setup. Incredible distance from the GE and projector lights along with great side lighting from the LED fogs and projectors. The tree line is probably 50-75 yards away. Highway driving (with no other cars in sight) is awesome

Next up is to get some kind of door panels on the car... The factory ones are heavy and dont really fit my Challenge Stradale/street fighter look that Im trying to go for. Hoping to save a few lbs each with a simple, but more modern look.
I ditched the heavy factory door handle/lock knob mechanism for some illuminated BMW E38 door handles. Light weight, with a simple modern look. Keeping with the German theme, I picked up some 1" poly seatbelt webbing to make some door pulls like the Porsche GT3's (?) have. Heres the layout:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/01/41E9E1CCEB7C45068AFDF9D6C78090F3_zps6m4b-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/Corvette%20Restoration/41E9E1CC-EB7C-4506-8AFD-F9D6C78090F3_zps6m4bzxwf.jpg.html)

Going to be a pretty basic panel with a bump out at the bottom. This is the mold so far. I still need to make the top part that wraps over the top of the door out of foam and then fiberglass it.

I love the look of the updated hood. How far back from the font edge did you cut, and how did you attach the mesh screen material to the underside?

Thanks guys! and sorry for the late replies, Havent checked backinto my thread for a few months now...

i like this car!!! nice work..... sorry if you have already said but.....is the ipod being used as your radio as well? if so how did you tie your speakers and amp etc into it?

Yes that is the only music source... It is the HRT iStreamer to the JL audio volume knob right to the amp input. the rest is standard hookup from the amp to the speakers. Its detailed in the "ipod hooked directly to an amp" sticky in the audio section

Very nice build, can you tell me where you got the following which you used to bolt your roll cage down
1.5" long .75" chromemoly slug threaded for 7/16" bolts with a 3/16 washer welded to the frame
(rear bars get 2 bolts, main hoop gets 3)

Many thanks Kevin (VSTOL)

Im probably a little late on this as I saw you started building your cage already, but I did not buy them, the guy that did the cage made them from chromo bar stock

Do you have a diagram on wiring the LED fog/turn signal? I've been thinking about doing the same thing on the parking lights for my Firebird (but use it as DRL/turn signal).

Thanks.

Tu

The wiring is no different except the 50W resistor gets tapped into the turn signal positive lead and the ground. The resistors are usually labeled which end goes to +12 and which goes to ground.

I love the look of the updated hood. How far back from the font edge did you cut, and how did you attach the mesh screen material to the underside?

I would say about 3"? I just cut a piece of black paper out and placed it over the vent to get a visual and kept trimming it to see what looked best. The mesh is actually from the concrete section in home depot. I could only buy a 4'x8' piece so I have plenty if you are local and want a piece :rotfl: Its just glued in with some epoxy

Cool....thanks for the update! Very interested in seeing how the door panels come out as Ive always wished you could get a thinner and simpler door panel for the C3....much like the A-body door panels....essentially a flat piece of particle board, padded and wrapped in vinyl

Love the driving light/turn signal combo! I'm in the middle of switching all my bulbs over to LED and that's an idea I'd like to incorporate in my car. As we all know, not near enough light on the front of that car as they came....

If you don't mind me asking, where did you source the LED's? Also, is there an advantage to using resistors instead of changing the flasher unit to an LED-compatible one?

No update on the door panels as its been too cold to bother messing with fiberglass... So instead I start a new fiberglass project :screwy: I was never a huge fan of these pace car spoilers but they have grown on me, and i think I can modify this one to my own tastes.

The website I got these from is not great for linking to but go here:
http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm
and do a ctrl+f (PC users) for "80 Watt Cree Led White-Amber Switchback Bulbs"

I tried the LED flasher but they still would flash irregularly. The resistors seemed to take care if this (using a regular thermal flasher). I also did the BMW angel eye halos in the rear for the parking lights and a red/white switchback bulb in the reverse light so I have 4 brake lights (and parking lights with the halos). I changed the bulb socket from a 1156 to a 1157 so I have a brake light circuit and a reverse circuit. Ill try to get a pic of the rear lighting but it always gets washed out.

the gadgetry on this car is pure awesome!

Thanks! Theres so many more electronic gadgets and tweaks that are more appreciated in person than trying to describe them online. And although Im happy with how everything came out electronically so far, I really wish I went with an ISIS multiplex system. It would have made things so much easier and would be able to function exactly as I envisioned. I have electronics OCD so dont be surprised if you see an update post with an ISIS system :rotfl:

And to add another gadget to the list... I made it so that I can remotely shut the car down whenever, where ever. My push start system is extremely secure, but only if you arm the system. I usually arm it but there are times when I run out of the car for a second with it still running or with it unarmed. So now if someone decides they want to hop in and drive off, they will only get so far before I take out my phone, hit the shut down button and then track it with the GPS tracker. Once I hit the shut down button, the ignition switch is completely disabled and cannot be enabled until I say so. Some may say overkill, but hey, I can sleep at night when my car is parked outside somewhere. (I also like a good electronic challenge!)

Looking back a few posts I guess I never posted the latest pics of the door panels. Theyve been like this for the past month. I really hate working with fiberglass :lmao:

The final mold is done, just needs a bit of trimming/filling/adding in some spots. Id like to keep these as bondo-free as I can. Im only using 1/8" foam before wrapping it with vinyl so it has to be pretty straight to not look lumpy

Spoiler looks great!. I love the tire fitment. Do you think There is any chance to run 5.5"bs wheel in the front? I calculate your backspace to 5.3" based on a 15/16" spacer (Think I read thats what you are using somewhere.) I may try 18x10 with a 5.5"bs all around.

Have ever thought about going satin black on the wheels and pipes?

Thanks for the love guys... Motivates me to get back in it as I havent touched the car in a while. Unfortunately (Fortunately, really) Customer cars have to come first and the work hasnt stopped coming in so I stay busy. I am also working on a cool and cheap push start system that I think people will like. Once I have all the kinks worked out I will post the parts list and wiring diagram. I have the prototype in a 67 chevelle right now and will have another for testing in our 55 Chevy shop car.

Everyone, and I mean everyone has told me to go satin black for the pipes. I finally caved and went for it when I had the pipes off to get an O2 bung welded in. Im glad I did! As for the wheels, I think it looks mean as hell when they are covered in brake dust which looks like a black chrome color. Still unsure if I will go for that... yet.

And the stock big block radiator finally gave out, so I picked up an aluminum one that should be here soon.

as for the 5.5 backspace... you might be able to squeak them in. If you are not as low as me, there is room to move out towards the fender. If you get a wheel fit tool, I think you should be able to find a backspace that will be a happy medium between the 5.5 and 5.3

Steering setup is a custom manual rack. In hindsight I would have gone with a borgeson or other modern box conversion. The center takeoff rack leaves too much leverage for the tierods to flex under cornering.

Thanks! The spoiler fit pretty good... it was obvious someone did some shady bodywork to the nose of my car at one point, so Im not sure if that was the issue with the fitment, but even then it still fit pretty well. I left it removable and seemed to hold up well at "highway speeds". I will be buying and making another one as this one has met its demise...
The front grabbed the pavement and ripped it from the body and pulled it under the car as I ran over one half and dragged the other down the road. :barf:

Small progress today...
Got the frame rough cut for clearancing the trailing rods. With these on the inside of the entire frame rail (instead of in the rail) Ill be able to box and triangulate it with some tubing

Cut some of my hex tubing... Anyone ever bore tubing out on a drill press? Or is this better suited for a lathe?
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/01/955C75E0BE2143F5AB7B723961520157_zpsj5sc-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/Corvette%20Restoration/955C75E0-BE21-43F5-AB7B-723961520157_zpsj5sctsjw.jpg.html)

And had Dan (AKA the_dan) send these off to be laser cut. Please excuse my sloppy drawing
This is the camber rod mount on the diff:

A little more accurate positioning of the trailing links in relation to the frame rail:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/02/11591ECCE0F149B88C870F0635A9A53A_zpshgdt-1.jpg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/vette427sbc/media/Corvette%20Restoration/11591ECC-E0F1-49B8-8C87-0F0635A9A53A_zpshgdtzaa4.jpg.html)

I cut out the entire side of the kickup... Plenty of rust forming between the double wall sections

Not sure how Im going to make the trailing link bolts accessible to change position. As of now, Im thinking of putting an access door in the kickup and pull bolts from that side. I will be putting the triangulation brace back so that makes it difficult to pull the upper bolt all the way out from that end. Other ideas?

Also, the tubing lengths are just estimates until I can finalize everything. then I will account for jam nuts ;)

I have been doing a similar mod to my 71 Vette. While your in there. Beef up the kick up area of frame. It is a weak point in the frame. I was able to weld 2 pieces of square tubing to the rear crossmember and tie it to the main crossmember that the front of the diff. Basically doubling the kick up section. I did it down the middle. I did it so it fits under the floor. I have also seen small square tubing used outside of the kick ups to triangulate the kick up area to that same main crossmember.
Great Work on the car! Looks Awesome.

The oil cooler is done too. Just need to figure out where and how I am going to secure the lines. Heads are coming off for the new gaskets and the rear suspension is almost ready to go back in. Getting close to being able to beat it up at another track day!

Absolutely stunning build. Just picked up a set of M-Parallel's and was wondering what thickness spacer/adapters you used.

Looking good. I finally hit my '72 with a little fiberglass work last week. My poor vette has been off the street for about 10 years now. I finally got my new garage!
On those trailing arms, how about welding some nuts on the backside and using safety wire to hold the bolts in place? I wouldn't want to cut a window in that kickup. I'd keep it fully boxed.

So finally an update!! First, sorry for the non chronological photos... Im uploading from my phone so its a bit cumbersome.

July 4th weekend 2017, DMP FAB (the_dan on here) picked up my frame to finish (read: re-do) the fab work for all that I had mocked up. After speaking with Ron Sutton, I have scrapped the C5 front suspension idea and decided to go with one of his TA series front clips. The clip was shipped to DMP FAB in NH and is scheduled to be ready for delivery back home in a couple weeks.

A few things worth noting about the frame mods being done... the trans and diff (pinion mount side) have been flushed to the rest of the frame rails so that I can get a *mostly* smooth underside. both of these crossmembers were designed with weight and strength in mind, so the vertical sections are made from .188" plate, while the top and bottom sides are .090". The front clip is designed for 335's under my stock front fenders, and the rear frame rails have been clearanced to fit 345's with a subtle 2" flare. I cant say enough good things about both Dan @DMP FAB and Ron Sutton getting my project back in motion and turning out better than I could have imagined!

Pics are in reverse chronological... But!... The RSRT front clip is pseudo assembled for mockup. Looks like it will be pretty close to matching up to my original frame. Some modifications have to be made to clear the floor/firewall and my sidepipe headers. Full confidence that dan @DMP will make it work perfect!

Thanks, Chris! If I had to give you one piece of advice for your corvette, buy a second frame so you can still drive and enjoy yours while you work on the frame fab... Im close to 4 years without driving this car and that is depressing. Never less, Im beyond happy with the fab work that Dan has done for me... Only a few more days until its back in my hands and ready for plumbing, belly pan, cage mounts, etc...

Starting on belly pan tabs before I go any further with the (hard) fuel lines since I will be routing the lines around the tabs. Im using Dzus fasteners/plates/springs from Earls... They were the only company that I could find with a diagram on how to choose what parts would work together (ie: spring height w/ compression, plate sizing, fastener reach) They also have "lightweight" plates with a few extra holes in them. Am I being anal enough about weight yet?? :geek:

Getting very close to final assembly! Got the last parts back from powdercoat; Picking up the frame from the bodyshop tomorrow morning. While waiting, I detailed and painted what I could.

Before I had it blasted and painted I had some steel tubing welded in with AN bungs so I could run the fuel lines through the frame. Under the crossmember would have been too low (and interfered with the belly pan) and over would have prevented me from ever removing the lines if I needed to once the body is on.

Nicely done....I dig the super clear routing! I've got a '64 that I'm about to dig into, to include the 4 wheels disc conversion. Unfortunately, with the body not coming off the frame, running clean brake and hard fuel lines to the rear is going to be a challenge.

I have a cautionary comment to make. I used to be a chassis fabricator for dragsters. We looked at every single part and asked, can we make it lighter? There are some parts that can be weakened to the point of early fatigue. If you look at the heaviest as the worst offenders with the thought of how light is still strong enough for a complete life span as to match the rest of the components, you will save the most. I cut every fastener off to about 1 thread past the end of the nut in a torqued situation. Anything that failure could cause destruction or death was looked at with caution. Your project is looking good. :)

Fuel tank showed up this weekend from DMP Fabrication (the dan)... to say Im impressed is an understatement! The end caps are billet with integrated mounts to distribute the load and the center section sheet aluminum is one piece to minimize stressed welded areas. Its also braced/baffled internally for the Aeromotive Stealth in-tank pump. Weighs 26 lbs with the pump. The bottom side of the tank is angled to follow the contour of the quarter panel to help get rid of the rear "parachute" that these corvettes have. It came out to about 23 gallons.

Got my new brackets and some fittings for the oil pump today, so motor went in for mock-up. Its much tighter than I expected! Im going to need to put some serious thought into how this stuff will be routed...
As of now, the scavenge lines from the pan to pump are figured out. They are Earls Prolite 350 -12 with an internal spring. I thought I ordered -10 for the pressure side but apparently I ordered -8 instead... so pressure side will have to wait until next week. :hand:

Both of the -12 lines coming through the motor mount will be getting a heat sleeve and a titanium heat shield to protect from the headers.
The pressure-out from the filter housing will go forward along the frame rail to the oil cooler, then back up the drivers side to go into the block.

Nice progress.
If you are looking to protect that nice new fuel tank I would recommend Sharkhide.

Thanks! I was wondering how I was going to keep it looking like this with the saltwater-air around here. Nothing is safe from corrosion!

Been following since the beginning but I may have missed it....what are the SPECs on the motor? I'm a big LS fan, but also love a good GEN 1 SBC. The '64 I'm building has the original solid lifter 327....leaning towards just rebuilding that and adding fuel injection...really need to start a build thread at some point. Anyway, love seeing the updates!!

Thanks! Its a Dart SHP 427, Dart 215 heads, hydraulic roller (have to dig up the cam specs). It made 595 on the dyno, Im hoping I can hit the 600 mark with some light intake porting, tuning and the drysump vacuum... Ive also wanted a 427sbc forever (hence the username!) and I came across this motor for a price that I couldnt pass up. The only reason This car doesnt have an LS is because I plan to have this car mostly completed to take a road trip down the east coast spring of 2019. The LS would have delayed that with the extra wiring, tuning and cost of parts. Ill build a nice N/A 427 LS based motor in my spare time while I enjoy the car. My current daily driver is 5800lbs and 140hp. I need something fast in my life again ASAP :rotfl:

PS start a thread on your 64!

Make sure you protect yourself, gloves, respirator, etc. if you go with the shakhide, the stuff is pretty nasty.
Would do it outside on a nice day so you can still work in the shop.

Very cool. I hear ya on the LS....my 1972 C20 Suburban daily driver has a 6.0 LS in it and the cost of wiring/fuel injection/accessories/exhaust was more than the cost of the motor.

Don't know what your plans are for your road trip next spring, but if you make it towards Norfolk/VA Beach, give me a shout. If you're coming south from Jersey, the Cape May Ferry then down the eastern shore of MD an VA is a beautiful drive.

I think 99% of the chassis and drivetrain work that should be done body-off is complete... Dry sump pump, pan, filter and thermostat are plumbed. Ive never heard of these guys Improved Racing until about a month ago but I really liked the look of their oil thermostat. Upon receiving it, the part looks very well made and its available in different opening temperatures. My Earls sandwich thermostat was only available in 180 and with the majority of my seat time being on the street I couldnt always get the oil temp up to 212. My Improved Racing one is 215*F

Trans is in for good... Bellhousing indexed to .002" I went with an ACT 10.5" billet steel flywheel. Weighs 12lbs with most of the material removed towards the outside. Beautiful build! crazy to see the how much its changed over the years as you click through the pages. I do have one question for you, I could be wrong but it looks like the rear diff is actually higher than the trans? if so im in the same situation and was kinda worried about drive line angle of the transmission being angled down. From everything i read you need to match the angle of the trans to the rear diff. Whats your idea or plans with your setup as far as driveline angle?

vette427-sbc

Thanks, Shawn! Im doing my best to make this thing "future proof" so that I can enjoy it once its done instead of wishing that I did something better a year from now (wishful thinking)... Ive BEEN ready to put some miles on this car again.
The diff pinion angle is still technically the same as the trans. The motor sits pretty low and the diff has been raised. As long as the driveshaft is seeing the same angles, I dont think it cares what end is up.

You are right. and after staring at the picture for a bit i can see the diff angle now. Its always hard to tell with pictures, but im just glad someone else is in the same boat as i am and still confident haha. Good luck! ill be following along

Thank you! Had the ridetech and detroit speed stuff came out before I started this project, I may have just gone down that route... Id probably be driving the car right now if I did!! My one piece of advice if you do plan to go this far; keep your car on the road and buy another frame so you can (a) still drive the car and (b) use your car for reference measurements

No the SHP is a standard pan size... The Aviaid oil systems website is difficult to navigate... I called and they were very helpful getting my non standard oil pump fitment figured out. Worth a call to see if they have or can make you a pan.

I plan on cutting the fender "gutter" to allow for oil fill access. The drain is easily accessible underneath as well. I had ports welded on the tank for a level sight, but it's only a clear plastic hose with hose barbs... I'm worried that may fail and dump oil in close proximity to the headers so instead I'm going to see if I can find a low level sensor that will fit and hook it to my existing oil light.

335/30/18 mocked up, I know I said I was keeping this chassis under stock fenders, but I may or may not have messed up my total track width measurement :hand: According to my chassis build sheet, my tires are 72" outside to outside. 2" flares already on their way, and the subtle widebody idea has already grown on me. Widebody C3 Vettes are cool. They have real character.

I love this build. Very well done.

Thanks, Bill! You know, I always wanted a flared vette, but when I had this car completed (before I took the body off) I fell in love with the stock fendered look - as long as the stance was right. The big flared cars like the detroit speed car, danny popp and everyone else running a C3 in the goodguys/optima scene are cool, but not the look I want for this car. I dont want the average Joe to be able to tell that this car has flares. I have a custom set of 2" flares for the rear coming that will hopefully have even the corvette guys doing a double take wondering if its flared. The cage, tire size and big brakes kind of ruin the "suble look" though :rotfl:

Keep the updates coming. I have made a few math mistakes as well, its how we adapt them to make it work.

Very true, Daniel!

I love this build. I was wondering if you have those BMW wheels still and if you're looking at selling them?

My Christmas present from the family stating: "I hope you never actually use this" Safecraft 5lb Fire system. It uses 3M Novec 1230 chemical. I was going to put a fire extinguisher in here anyway, so whats the big deal to add 20 ft of aluminum line and a pull cable to gain a massive jump in safety??

So the A-pillar bar required the relocation of the light switch, leaving an ugly hole that isnt easily fillable... killed two birds with one stone! Easy access for me while strapped in, and for a corner worker to grab through the window

Im going to run an under-dash, engine compartment and fuel pump/tank nozzle. Ill likely have the tank in the passenger side rear storage compartment to keep it low, centrally located, and the head away from anything that could accidentally knock into it.

And after much mental debate... Ive decided on an alternator. NipponDenso Mini... My worst case scenario amp draw exceeds what these are capable of (90A rebuilt); BUT that scenario is mostly avoidable (parallel parking with headlights on, blower motor on, rad fans on, radio on, the low engine RPM and electric power steering pump at max draw) If its unavoidable, its only for a second or two and the battery can fill in the missing amperage. Ill deal with the lights dimming for a few seconds to gain:
Less weight, lower mounting position, more clearance on other parts, more radiator ducting room.

I have also moved the oil cooler thermostat to the right (in these pictures) of the steering rack to lessen the cooler line lengths, and make room for the lower radiator hose. Unfortunately, this means extending the lines for the PS cooler to the passengers side. BUT this gives me more room to play with oil tank position and keeps the oil cooler lines further from the headers. I feel like I havent gotten much done but the nights of just staring and thinking over every possible configuration is paying off... Everything is finally finding its home and Im happy (so far) with serviceabilty, practicality and packaging of all the components. :yum:

Small, but some progress... TSP Performance 90A alternator came in along with some Jones Racing HTD pullies. The water pump is 1:1 and the alternator is 2:1. I trimmed down the alternator pulley a bit on the lathe to get it closer to the case so I can keep everything as tight as possible to the motor.

Slowly picking away at the ever-growing list of to-do's...

I got the firewall brace bonded to the firewall, finally. I used 3M 08115 Panel bond. My goal was to use the panel bond instead of the rivets to increase rigidity so that I would get less flex, and therefore better pedal response under hard braking.

Next on the list is the heater hoses... Intake side is done, I still have to make a 1/2NPT to 45* -10AN for the waterpump side

Header mockup is done... had to re-route #1 tube so that I can run a straight shaft with only 2 joints, which also gives me more clearance for the oil cooler lines. Thats two things on my list taken care of with one modification :3rd:

Clutch master reservoir line is finished. I tried to figure out how to get an AN fitting on the master, but the inlet is too large to machine and tap for a banjo thread. Keeping it simple for now with a short rubber hose connection.

Mercedes A-class power steering pump bracket... The pump mounts using the two top rubber isolated bolts, and Ill have to make a piece of poly to secure the bottom of the motor with the bracket with a hose clamp or something similar. The two slots at the bottom are for the hose clamp to pass through.

Are you still planning the east coast cruise and how far down are you going to go?

Still in the plans, although due to some unforeseen issues with the flares, it will be postponed. After I saw the issue with the flares, the build turned into a stress maker, and not a stress reliever so I slowed down and got my focus back on track. Ive got some friends that live in West Palm Beach area so assuming the car makes it that far, ill be down there at some point!

You'll pass right by me, let me know when youre making the trip, I'd love to see the car in person, if you have the flexibility you could plan it to be in W. Palm for Cars and coffee, its the biggest in the country.

I havent posted too many details on my in-dash balance bar setup yet, but part of that project was figuring out where to put the bias adjust... Easy to access, short cable run and make it not look too out of place. I think the ashtray location fits the bill!

Definitely! My friend sends me pictures and videos everytime he goes to C&C... Ill be planning my trip to make sure I hit one of the scheduled Sundays.
