View Full Version : Opinions on '69 Camaro RS conversion kits
Aloha,
I'm interested in converting my standard front end to the RS style.
Anyone out there have any opinions or experience with the kits on the market?
(quality of parts, fitment, price)
I was looking at this kit.... http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-rally-sport-rs-front-conversion-kit-with-ds-58-headlight-door-kit-for-non-rs-cars-1969.html
Thanks

thats the one i want to get also
I bought a American autowire classic update series wiring kit and added back up lights, and correct rear lens wiring. If you want to just splice the left and right turn wires with the inner light and add new sockets that works too. For now I'm leaving the standard grill in with RS rear setup... kinda expensive for the front RS kit-

I converted my 67 to hide-away headlights with a classic industries kit (electric operated, not vacuum) about 5 years ago. The kit didn't come with a wiring diagram. It only came with a chassis assembly manual, which isn't much help. So, the install was pretty difficult. Perhaps, it was intended for "professional installers". The grill and the mechanical parts could be assembled fairly easily by deduction. The fitment was good. The electrical was another story. 5 years ago, DSE didn't offer the torque limit motors. I was provided 2 motors, 4 limit switches, 3 relays and confusion. I gave up on the 3 relays, purchased some double throw relays from radio shack and moved forward on the project.
The DSE torque limit motors seem like the way to go. I'm currenty repainting so, I may pick up a set when I reassemble. I've experienced reliability issues with the stock limit switch setup. The motor slips on the swing arm due to the way it attaches and bounces off the limit switch. This results in the door constantly reciprocating back and forth about a 1/2" while it tries to stay open.
The RS fenders and headlight cups are also different. An adapter plate is to be welded on the inside of the fender to mount the RS headlight cup; the cup will be recessed in the front grill. At least, that's how the CI kit comes, Rick's may be something different.
On a 67 lower valance has to replaced to move the front turn signals. They mount in the lower valance in the RS.
I like to hear about those DSE motors if you do decide to purchase the Rick's kit.
Thanks, for the replys guys..... Guess no one here has purchesed the Rick's kit yet......

Just curious if anyone has used this kit with this headlight door control setup?
