is there a way to improve the r&p a bit more? i run a steeroids system in my 69 and was never dissapointed, it was a huge improvement in driveability compared to my old steering-box. but i still donīt like the feeling of the steering. itīs a power assisted steering and the steering runs over a hydroboost system. what i donīt like is that i can move my steering wheel still from 11 o clock to 1 o clock position till it reacts, donīt get me wrong there is no play in the steering and the car runs straight no matter how messed up the road is, itīs just weird that i can move that much. next thing is that the steering feels a bit too easy, can i put a valve into the pressure hose without messing something up?
thanks,
pat

Pat,
Heidts has an adjustable valve for power R&P steering; http://www.heidts.com/steering_kits_components.html
Summit, Speedwaymotors sell 'm for around $85,-.

It sounds like you have multiple areas to work on.
First is toe, I think you need to move to toe out until the vehicle isn't stable enough for your liking. That should make the car react quicker to turn-in.
Second, you may want to find out how much fluid flow the rack needs and compare that to the pump you have. Not easy to do obviously, unless if you have a pump from a specific manufacturer. You could ship the pump to Turn-One or Lee to have them correct the flow for you.
I don't know what rack is used in their kit so that's all I can say for now.

hey rené, you should come and check out. last week of skiing but i already did some test runs with the car, the watts works pretty good. iīm gonna take a look on the heidtīs valve. i would love to get the steering like the one in my bmw but i think thats kinda hard in a 43year old car compared to the dozens of hours spent from a engineering team on a new one :)
matt, i need to install my tall ball joints so i gonna get my steering geometry checked again. do you have some raw numbers for toe that i can use? i just took all the numbers from the steeroids istruction and it said 0 to 1/8” toe in.

KRC pumps make a pump with adjustable flow valves.

uhhhhh checked krcīs homepage that looks like a lot of fabrication to me :hammer: plus i have a brand new pump cause i swapped to serpentine. but they have pretty cool flow valves http://www.krcpower.com/flowvalves.html , that stuff looks easy to give it a try. just need to place them right before the steering cause when placing at the pump iīm making my hydroboost useless or not??????

Pat, it shouldn't. Believe me, my 45 year old (with Lee Steering box) feels like a new car and I'm not experiencing that sloppy feel you have in your car. Took it to the Zandvoort track this weekend. I'm (still) having problems with my brakes but have a look: http://youtu.be/ikUaTU6FPtc

i know rené, i wonīt be bitching about my r&p it works great but it feels more like the rack in my dodge ram than the one in my bmw. it steers great without any effort but i want it to feel a little more responsive. but man that video is great, love your car but seems like you need to install a thick floor panel on the driver side cause your sweetheart tends to brake with you hahaha :) say hi to her and let me know when you guys are coming this summer

The valve will help for sure! That rack was the first for your car, its an old design and many complain of it being too light (no road feel)
Try the valve, of that doesn't make it feel the way you want swap out to a diff. Brand rack or do our delphi box with ridetech tru-turn!!!! You will be amazed...
From what I rem. from years ago that rack had some bump steer issues?
Not to worry, there are solutions!

Yep, just get a valve to try and get some road feel out of it.
As for the slop, there isn't much that will cause that other than the rack or joints....
