Hey I like that blue 1971 Monte Carlo Convertible. Of course I would since I have a 1970 and 1972 Monte Convertible! Thanks for the pictures of the forgotten Chevrolet, the Monte Carlo!

Does anyone know who the wagon belongs to I am building a 62 to look similar to that and would really like to talk to the owner. If anyone knows whose it is or has anymore pics I would appreciate the help.

Do you know what year the monte convert was in production? And the approximate make numbers?

Monte Convertibles are VERY rare. I have 2 or none! Chevy never made one however if you look in the first edition 1970 Monte Carlo Owners Manual printed in April 1969 you will see instructions on how to operate the convertible top. Apparently it was considered enough that it made the early first edition printing of owners manuals. My 1970 convertible is an early car with a first edition early owners manual. It sure makes people scratch their head when you lay the owner manual on the dash at a show opened to the page on how to operate the convertible top. I am amazed at the amount of people who comment that they had one when first generation Monte Carlo's were new?????

Making a Monte convertible is actually not that difficult. Everyone I have seen has been done with a Monte as the starting point, not a Chevelle as mentioned in an earlier post. You MUST have a real donor convertible to cut up for the unique convertible structure and top. The conversion can actually be made in cut piece from the donor convertible. One would think that a Chevelle would be the best donor car. It is not! An Oldsmobile Cutlass makes a perfect donor convertible as the top quarter panel lines on a Cutlass follow the original quarter panel lines of a Monte MUCH BETTER.

One of my Monte Convertibles was built with a Chevelle and the other with a Cutlass. When people are asked which rear quarter panels lines they like with the cars side by side, EVERYONE has always the says the car built with a Cutlass has better body lines. Hard to explain the differences however very apparent when the cars are side by side.

Both cars look FABULOUS! The car built with the Cutlass donor car just looks better!

Whats under the hood of the 2 tone wagon? The header tubes are trowing me off. Is it a 6 cylinder?

I know it was built by two young kids....the car is rough up close! but the sliding rag top is killer!

I guess the licence plate on the Monte should have been a hint that it was a "xhardtop". It never dawned on me that they never made those.

i was there this year and all i can say is that show is gettting worse every year

i have gone for the last 10+ years and this will probably be my last one

shrinking amounts of vendors smaller car show just very disappointed in it

went to goodguys a week prior and that is well worth the trip

anyway here is the pics

I heard the same thing from a guy I know. He said there was probably less then 1000 cars total, show and race.

If you go to a GG show like Columbus, it'll spoil you.

The Dallas Super Chevy show has been going downhill over the last five years or so,too. The best event in North Texas now,IMO,is the Goodguys Lonestar show at Texas Motor Speedway. Hope to have my car there in October. Maybe some of you will join me.

me and a buddy went to gg last year (same weekend as indy) and when the date was moved so they wernt on the same weekend this year we went to both

if gg got a good swap meet they could bury indy in no time

It's probably going to happen anyway,CJ. Super Chevy needs new leadership, now.

Actually, GG does have a swap meet. But it's pretty small.

IMO, GG does bury Super Chevy. 7000+ cars (Pre-'72 at that) vs. under 1000 cars. Not much of a competition there.
