OK...putting together my plans for my '68 Firebird PT car
Pretty much leaning LM7 with a 4l60 trans
Might end up with an LS1 If I get a good deal locally

What rear end ratio should I use??

I have scored a '74 Nova housing and plan to upgrade to the 8.5 and posi.

What was the standard ratio inh the 2000 camaro for example?

Atleast 3:73 I am running a 3:42 w my 5.3. And although it runs good it needs more. I have 8.5 in mine and will prolly go w 3:90s

I ran a bone stock LS1/4L60/3.42 8.5" in my 67 camaro. Was a great all around gear. Had plenty out of the hole and great on the highway. At the drag strip, it felt slightly weak once it hit 3rd gear. It still sqeeked out a 12.99 @106. On the '10 power tour I averaged 24 mpg. With smaller motor I'd have to agreee on 3.73 or 3.90. These LS motors love some gears. I'm currently building a 68 firebird vert with LS1 (LS6 cam, long tube headers), 4l60, 8.5" and I chose the 3.42's again. Let us know what you decide & update us on the build. Scott

standard ratio is probably 2.73 for 2000 camaro. I have 2.78s in my car and feel like it could use a bit more gear. It's no problem though since it has plenty of torque just seems like it needs a bit more gearing to get it moving sometimes at part throttle just driving around. Torque converter is more important though than gears if you are looking to go fast at the track.

I know you have an auto but I love my 6 speed. That has been the best thing I ever did to my car. It's an absolute blast driving shifting gears. With that said, I have 4.10's and 305/45 Nitto's and at 72 I'm turning about 1800 rpm. Gets 20mpg and I still need to tune the motor so hoping to squeeze a little more.

I am actually planning on building it to drive 20-40,000 miles a year for my work. I get paid mileage on an expense report for my mileage and plan to do so in style. So it looks like something in the low 3's might be the way to go.

3.70 in a shortened Ford 9". LS6 with a 4L60e. 275/35/19's out back. At 55mph it's turning 1900rpms.

The plan for this is to set the cruise at my usual 80 and drive the interstate for the next 2-6 hours until I need gas or arrive at my destination. Doing the math and my planned 17" wheels...again low 3's I think is the plan
