Im thinking about doing a 18" front and 19" tire and wheel combo on my 68 elco. anyone know how wide i can go on the rear tire width? i would like to stuff a 285 or 295- 35 or 40 series in back. anyone successful in getting that size tire out back. i have a stock width 12 bolt in the rear now. plan on bringing the rear height down. thanks, mike.

i was told a 285 would fit in the rear of a el camino.

yep it does, I've got a 285 under my 71 with plenty of clearance

Thanks guys,
brandon, are you running a 35 or 40 series tire? i wonder if i can get a 295/35/19 or a 295/40/19 in back?

I'm running a 35 series tire and I have plenty of clearance all around, I think a 295 would fit without trouble

It's goin to depend on you're back space, but with rolled lips 315 can be done, trouble is getting 4 matching tyres in a decent compound. 295/35/18 fit with sooo much space it's not funny, heaps more tyre choices too. (applies to 68-72, earlier stuff wont fit quite as much tire)

I ran 295/40/20's on the rear of my former 68 Elky and there was a lot of room left.

Thanks usazr1. i was thinking about a 20" rear and 19" front set up. that rear size would be perfect.
