I'm putting a 2004 GTO LS1 with a T56 into my '65 Malibu SS. I tried the stock headers, and quickly realized that this was a no go with the steering shaft. Doug's headers seemed like they had good reviews, so I ordered a pair back in December. Just got the frame back, and the drivers side fits great. Problem is now on the passenger side - the header hits both the frame rail and the starter. Any suggestions what to do? The engine is mounted with Trans-dapt plates, but changing those wouldn't help with the header hitting the block.

I have p/n D3338, that says it is for Chevelle LS1 62-72.

Pictures of the car are here, nothing with the header problem posted yet:

Hopefully pictures will help. With the starter out, I can just fit the header into place with it wrapped up and it touching the started and the frame. It's possible there might be a 1mm of clearance bolted in, but I highly doubt it. It looks like there is a ton of extra meat on the bell housing around the starter. If I cut off 1/4", there will be plenty room on that side. Anyone see issues with this plan?

Here you can kind of see where it touches the frame. I'm thinking it might be less hassle to dimple the tube here and risk damaging the ceramic coating, vs. sending it back. Any other great ideas? It is very very close to fitting into place - will likely bolt up but I don't want to have rattles later.

Who makes the best conversion headers for a 67 a body. I have the Doug's headers and brackets and when using energy suspension mount it hits my frame on both sides?
