View Full Version : Need help on wheel selection for 67 camaro - Silver and Black

I could use some help on wheel selection for my 67. I would like to stay under $3000 for wheels and tires. It is stock as far as the wheel wells are concerned. factory 12 bolt. I like the Boze muscle, boss 338, billet specialties street smart qualifier and fastlane. Need opinions on wheel selection and polished vs. polished outer with black or silver centers, etc. Any input would be helpful.
I plan on running 18x8 w/ 235/35/18 and 18x9 or 18x9.5 w/275/35/18. Pic of my car is below. Also looking for aftermarket disc brake kit, currently have stock disc up front and drum rear.

thanks for the photoshop work, its beyond my current computer abilities. After looking at the rushforth site I am thinking about increasing the budget a bit and going with super spokes with the titanium centers (brushed cap) and brushed or polished lip to work with the existing chrome on the car. Any vendors for rushforth able to give me a price, and anymore photoshop work with the super spokes with titanium centers would be awesome.
This all came about from a simple rear end gear change, when we found that someone cut the axles and welded ford ends on them, so the current TTII's are ford pattern, and they also dont tuck properly, so the TTII's will probably hit the for sale section soon.
Thanks for the input.

I think the Rushforth Super Spokes would look killer with titanium centers. Unfortunately I'm heading to Mexico for a week before the sun rises tomorrow, so I can't do any other photoshops. Hopefully someone else can help.

Well, it doesn't look like much happened while I was away. Here's a quickie with the Rushforths and some red calipers. I wasn't sure how big the wheels were on your Camaro currently. I guessed that they were 17's so I upsized them a bit in the photo, aiming for 18's.

thanks for the photoshop. My buddy did a few over the weekend but his didn't turn out to well. Here are a couple other choices I am thinking of. I will be going with 18's all around. The forgeline wheel is awesome, but of course I picked the most expensive one out there!

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. What size are the wheels that are currently on the car?

I think a black wheel with polished lip is the way to go. Check out Larry's camaro, I think the wheels on it are sweet, he even has the red calipers.

I like the idea of a black wheel to match what you already have going with the top and stripe. Adding a different silver or gray in there would be too much with the silver paint.

Completely agree on black wheel with polished lip. Polished always looks right if you have other chrome trim on the car, and the black looks good with the black hood.

Agreed! Adding another color looks cluttered IMHO

They say timing is everything!! I am in the same exact boat. 67 camaro silver with black stripes. Looking at getting Foregline wheels as well. Looking at 235/35/18 up front and 315 - 335/30/18 in rear. Car is getting mini-tubbed, axel shortened and Ridetech 4-link with Single adjustable coil-overs as we speak.. I have it narrowed down to ZX3 or GA3. I thought I was going with brushed center and polished lip until I look more at Larry's car. Damn, the black and polish look good with that car!! My big stick point is how do you know how much back space to do on the wheels.

I have been talking with Frank at Prodigy Customs about the Forgeline's. He's a pro when it comes to the backspacing, I would definately start with him. The black vinyl top is throwing off my wheel selection a bit, but I cant really afford to repaint right now. Good luck. 67rally has been doing some sweet photoshop work to help out with the selection. I think I owe him a beer or something!

Looking good..I like Larry's wheels alot as well. I noticed that you said you are going with a 235 up front instead of a 245... From what I have seen and in talking to Frank at Prodigy (good call by the way) a 245 should fit.
I am struggling big time with wheel decision. For sure going black center and polished lip. Looking at the Forgeline GA3,GZ3 or ZX3P. Cant decide on exposed bolts and stepped lip or flat lip?? To many stinking choices!! Really leaning towards the ZX3p. Thoughts??

Just an FYI...I run 245/40/18 (tel:245/40/18)'s up front on an 18x8 w/ 5" BS and they would rub on full turn with any suspension travel if I didn't have the SpeedTech LCA's with the adjustable steering stops.
As always, do your research on fitment issues as well as vendor issues before any major purchase.

I agree, 245 will probably rub a bit. Alot of guys say they do and yet others say they do not. I am planning on going with 235's up front as well, just to be safe. Interesting point you made on vendor issues, that's the last think I want!! Who do you plan on going threw for your wheels?

I think Forgeline is a vendor or sponsor on this site. I'd be tempted to buy direct through them if they can get you a good price.
***Edit***
It looks like Forgeline has a link on the right hand side of the page, and so does Boze Forged.

So in my quest for finding wheels for a decent price I ran across this wheel from American Racing, it just came out, and they will build it in any backspacing you need (1/4" increments). For (2) 18x8 and (2) 18x9 the set will run me $1300, and with Nitto 555's, shipped to my door the total is $2120.00. Seems like a tough deal to beat, but as many of the forum members have stated, if you don't get what you want initially you will just be spending more to change them later. So I am wanting opinions on the wheel. Thanks.

So here is a TSW wheel that I can in the sizes I want with tires for $1700 shipped to my door, what do you all think of this one. Looks pretty close to the forgeline, but a 1/3 of the cost. I really want the forgelines, but I may have to wait a couple more years to pull it off.58338

That's a pretty good looking wheel. Closer to the American Racing one: https://www.pro-touring.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=58075&d=1334283049 Which Forgeline's do you want, the one's on Larry's car?
If I had to wait a couple more years to buy the wheels I wanted, it would be a pretty tough call. If you don't think you'd be happy with something like the TSW wheel, then you should wait. Otherwise you'll be into it for $1700, and then turn around and spend 3 times that amount down the road, and never recoup any of the original $1700. I don't know much about TSW's, but they look like they have a bunch of other styles as well. If you'd be happy with the TSW's and never look back, then I'd strongly consider them. I'd have a tough time dropping $5k on a set of wheels, and if it's going to take a long time to save up for them, you better really want them bad.
If you can find a side view of a car with the wheels you want, post it and I can PS them on. Without knowing the model of wheel, there are too many choices to have to dig through to try to find a good image.

The TSW model is "Carthage". I liked the forgelines on Larry's car. I think the TSW will look good on the car, I am sure they are a lot heavier than the forgelines, but I can live with that for now. The $1700 is for wheels, tires, and shipping. So I would really only be out the cost of the wheels if I decide to pull the trigger later on the forgelines. I am also sure I could sell the TSW for 1/2 price or something (so in reality only cost me about $400 to use them for a year or two, or maybe I will love them and not do a swap later). TSW has some other decent wheels, I found these and some other possible options at www.getyourwheels.com (http://www.getyourwheels.com). The Carthage would actually come in a 5x120 bolt pattern, but I will modify what is necessary to make them work. These should still come with a decent lip, 1.5" on the front and 3" on the rears, which is better than some BMW rims I was looking at. I think the TSW looks bit better than the american racing wheel, maybe its the rivets that make it look tougher to me.

What do you think 67rally? I think I might have to flip a coin. The TSW wheels will save about a $1000. Photoshop looks great, I will be lowering it a bit once I finalize the wheels and see how they fit.

Wheels are a real personal choice, all I can do is give you options.
Honestly, I like the Forgeline's better than the TSW's and the TSW's better than the American Racing. If I had to wait 6 months for the Forgeline's, I would wait. If I had to wait 2 years, I'm not sure I could wait that long, and would probably go with the TSW's.

Sweet. Definitely post pics when you get them. What size tire/wheels did you go with, and what's your backspacing?
I went back and looked at some more pics of the Carthage, and realized the lips are more polished than the pic I photoshopped. Mine looks almost white, and I like the silver (polished) better. I think you'll be very happy with them.

I went with 18x8 on the front, 1 piece wheel so the backspace came in three options, 20et, 35et, and 45et, I wanted the 20et, but they werent in stock and would take 8 weeks, so I went with 35et on the front which I will have to add a 5/8" spacer to make if fit perfect. Front tires are 235/40/18, I know I could have fit a 245, but I didnt want any rubbing issues.
Rears are 18x9.5 with 20et, so I will need a 3/8" - 1/2" spacer in the back. Tires are 275/40/18.
Went with Nitto 555's.
Wheels and tires came to $1712.00 shipped to my door in 4 days from time of order.
At least it will be back on the road next week, since my current wheels were not going to fit anymore, and now I can enjoy the good weather.

Just an FYI, I have 245/40/18's on 18x8's and they would rub on full turn if I didn't have adjustable steering stops on my LCA's, and that's with 5" BS. With a 35et, you are looking at 5.9" BS. You may need closer to a 3/4-1" spacer up front for clearance.
On the rear I run 275/40/18's on 18x9's with 5.25" BS, and they are very close to the inner wheel well. With a 20et on an 18x9.5 you are looking at 6" BS, so again, you may need closer to a 3/4" spacer in the rear for clearance.

So here it is with the new TSW Carthage wheels and Nitto tires on it. We performed a ton of other upgrades at the same time: new tko 600, new 3.73 gears, hotchkis subframe connectors and sway bar, speed tech UCA's, c6 brakes front and back, new moser rearend, QA1's all around, Lee 670 steering box, all new steering linkages tie rod ends, etc.
The difference in the driveability of the car is truley amazing. It took some time for the TSW's to grow on me due to the lack of the deep dish look on the front, but I really think they compliment the car well with the black vinyl top, thats not say that I still would not prefer the forgelines, but with the other upgrades we did this year it wasent in the cards.
I will try to get a few more pics that are a bit better soon.

Thanks again for your photoshop help. The new stance is awesome, just really need to pay attention to any sort of speed bump and steep driveway entrances, header collector clearance is about 2.75" - 3", which is the lowest point on the car.
