Hello, I've been visiting the site for a while to learn about 2nd gen Firebirds. Great info on this site. I finally joined so I can post and do searches. I don't have a project car, but would love to build a '70 -'73 Firebird. Would like to do a mild pro-touring with LS3 6 speed with decent suspension. Basically an old Firebird with performance/reliability/confort of a current Camaro. It would be for driving and autocrosssing. I have done a lot of autocrossing in the past. Thanks for all the great info and pictures on the site.

Hi Dave, keep an eye out. 2nd Gen Firebirds can still be found cheap if you are willing to put in the time and elbow grease to do the clean up yourself. The parts for these cars are readily available and are reasonably priced. Start saving up some money then start searching your local Craigslist ad's for your project. Below are cars that I have picked up from the local classifieds or Craigslist pretty cheap.

1980 Trans Am - Powered by a stock 301 - Ran great!!!... Paid $1500 for it.

1979 Trans Am - Powered by a 403 Olds - Changed it out for a 350 Pontiac - Paid $1000 for it.

All we did to this one was polish the paint and added some old Enkei wheels I picked up on Craigslist for $100. I wish I still had those wheels.

And my latest project. Picked it up from a friend who lost interest. 1978 Trans Am - Turn key with a full forged 400 Pontiac engine, race converter, transmission, 3.42 gears, Weld wheels, welded subframe connectors, South Side Machine traction bars and a 6 point roll bar. Got the car for $3500.00....

They key to it all is to have the money in hand when the deal is found. Show up with cash, tell the guy what you are willing to pay and hopefully you will strike a deal. Good luck and post up as soon as you find your dream ride.

Dave,

Welcome to the board! This is the best place for you to be if you are looking into building a older car like you described. I just so happen to have a co-worker here at BMR that has a '73 Firebird Espirit project car with a Formula hood!

PM me with your email and phone number and I will get you in touch with him.

BTW:

We will be able to get you set up with some really trick pieces once your ready....
