It was before my time, but Dad always talked about him. His name always made me think of the '66 Nova that he ran....probably because I really like the '66 and '67 cars.

Yep, I think Chevrolet was really lucky to have these two Legends associated with their banner. I was more into drag racing when I was younger, so I was a big fan of "da Grump". He always gave us bowtie fans some excitement. I even bought a Vega in 73 to put a SBC in, but never got around to it. Thanks for the memories! R.I.P. Grumpy.

58255If you haven't already heard, the racing world lost a true pioneer on March 29, 2012. William Tyler Jenkins, aka “The Grump” or “Grumpy,” the true originator of pro stock racing as we know it today, has passed away. Mark Pappas took the news rather hard. The William Tyler Jenkins was Mark's true hero whom he had idolized from the earliest of years. Mark was so captivated by William Tyler Jenkins innovations that he built two Grumpy tribute cars: 1968 Camaro and 1981 Camaro. Built to the specs of each, William Tyler Jenkins approved them by autographing them.

He even made an appearance with both cars and the motor for the '68 Camaro at the Muscle Car show last November. Mark recently purchased a true William Tyler Jenkins built and raced pro stock car, the #10 Vega. It is in the process of a complete restoration at Windy City Rods and Restorations. All in attendance at the Gearhead meeting April 4th were fortunate to see it. This is the last car completely built by William Tyler Jenkins. The motor for the Vega was recently built by William Tyler Jenkins and Jenkins Competition. This is the last motor William Tyler Jenkins built. Stay tuned for more as the build and restoration comes along, and look forward to news of the unveil.58256

Thats AWESOME, The early vega pro stockers were my favorite's. Wiedo
