What is this 377 shortblock worth?

Near new scat 4340 crank, slightly used h beam rods and a 400 block with aftermarket main caps.

All parts have been checked out by the machine shop and I owuld be buying from my cousin who I know would not sell me garbage.

This motor was built to run alcohol, yet it never saw anything but gas.

I am looking to rebuild his 377 as he no longer has a need for it.

Please let me know asap.

I see why your talking about a 377 in your post about heads now. I would talk to the machine shop and see what it is going to cost to rebuild it and then figure what the parts are worth. Also I know this sounds dumb but check and make sure the shop that does the work has a way to check and recondition rods. There are alot of shops and engine builders that will just buy new rods and assume there on size but in reality more often than not even expensive aftermarket rod will be slightly out of spec and it is definetly worth any cost to have them recondition them if they need to be.

The way I sometimes try and put a value on used parts is to find out what the parts were new . Then subtract 40 to 50 percent. Then take into consideration the machine work that was performed. Mind you sometimes this doesnt work for some parts . Some parts can be rare and bring double there value or more from what they were new. Remember as soon as you buy a part and take it home and use it you loose the dealers p[rofit. Which can range up to 50% or as little as 5%.

I would plan on going through the motor, check the balance, tolerences and replace bearings.
It sounds to me like this is an old dirt track motor which means it probably has had the crap kicked out of it.
I would say its worth $2K at the max

yeah 2000 actually sounds kind of high if it going to need new pistons or any machine work past honing the cylinders. I am going to say it again. Talk to the machine shop and see what is going to cost to put it back together and then make your decision on how much its worth and if you want to go that route. Keep in mind the engine is ballanced as an assembly so if it needs new pistons they need to weight the same as the old ones or the rotating assebly will need to be reballanced.

Yes it is a dirt track motor, my cousin races stock cars.

He said it was like 2,500 new but knows a lot of machine work and new pistons will be needed.

So far he has sold me a set of the old style dart heads that need to be gone through, victor jr. intake, and a set of 1.5 harland sharp full roller rockers for $625.00

Do the heads need any work. you had better let the machine shop inspect those too before you put them on a new shortblock.
