Heres a question.
Looking at powdercoating the subframe on my 68 Camaro. I was going to weld the subframe connectors to the subframe, then powdercoat the whole lot.
Problem is, once I weld them to the rear frame rails, wont the weld burn the powder off? Also, what do you use on the rear rails, as they are welded to the body?
Any help here is much appreciated!

you will have to grind off the area you will need to weld. and then prime that area after done welding.

So, are you powdercoating the subframe and painting the rear rails with something like chassis black?

There are all kinds of ways to do it. I sandblasted, Used epoxy primer, then sealer, Then Chassis Black. You could go POR 15 and use their Chassis Black.
I have seen people just wire brush and rattle can stuff too. (won't last very long)
I chose not to powder coat my subframe because of welding subframe connectors and cost. Painting it was way cheaper for me.

Thank you.
Just looking for a good presentation for my undercarriage.
Right now, I am looking at undercoating (using Lizard Skin CI) the rear frame rails, and guess I can stop the undercoating at the powdercoated subframe? Unsure how that will look. This is a high end car. It is being built to show and go, not just trailer. I dont want to paint the undercarriage body color and have it chipped with the first rock that hits it, so looking at whats best and best looking, if that makes sense?
Anyone have any photos of what they did?
Guess I could just undercoat the bottom of the subframe with the rest of the car?

I have just had my subframe powder coated. I am going to undercoat the rest. I think it will look just fine that way. IMHO...

How about color matching a truck bed liner to your body color a lot of street rod guys are doing it around here. My paint store sales rep suggested I try the stuff SEM makes and tint it with my tints when I mix my paint. He said to use it instead of the binders. I think it will look better than plain black undercoat

im not doing any of that i dont have a sub frame im just saying if you powder coat you will have to grind the pcoat off to weld it then paint that section. imo id use something else.

I'd sandblast it and paint it with epoxy. Then if you want you can either paint it to match or spray it with bedliner, or tint the bedliner to match. It will last longer than any of your alternatives.

It really dresses it up while still having the durability and fairly easy cleanup to be driven regularly.
