2002 Ford Escape engine replacement

My daughter blew the engine in her Ford Escape. I got a quote of 3500 to replace it. This is for an engine with 92000 miles and a one year P&L warrantee for 2400 and 1100 for labor and misc. Does that seem correct?

You can buy a late GM low mileage full size V8 motor for less with less miles.

To me, that sounds pretty high for a 92,000 mile small Ford motor.
I'd shop elsewhere.

I am skeptical on the engine prices,,,seems like a lot of mark up for a used engine, but doubling the cost is most companies as for car-par.com ranges 1100-1400 for V6 in your area, 500-750 for 4 cylinder.
Depends on actual warranty also.
Too me the labor seems high but not sure what the hours break down, I would have to look that up.
Honestly I unless your completely sold on the shop I would shop around, ask for competitive bids with similar terms.
You are talking a car that near you kbb lists several for about double that.
Honestly unless your simply not able to why not so it your self, its not hard just need to be detail oriented for wiring routing, and making sure all the vacuum lines and hoses get hooked back up. Tools for the fuel lines and such can be picked up cheap and other than that or maybe a timing belt or gasket freshening. its basically plug and play . And for $1100 I can pull a few late nights over shelling out the cash.
Also ask about sourcing your own engine/parts,,understanding you have less or no warranty compared.
IF its an Everdrive, RUN away,,, invest in a Jasper Rebuilt.
Also just what" blew. did it over heat, blow a head gasket or throw a rod.
OH and how quick does she really need it back, maybe a craigslist beater for a month might let you shop around.
Ill try to look up labor rate, get shops hourly rate and we will see how close it jives.

As I tried to state most shops today do a double it mark up on parts, my quotes WERE from car-part.com in his area.

Looks like a new engine is anywhere from $2400 - $2700.

I'd just look into buying a new motor if it's that much for a used one.
New motor and trans, the truck will last many more years.

Buying a high mileage used one for nearly half that amount with God only knows how much life left on it.

Thanks for all the help. I thought that seemed high for the motor. I found one out the door for 1400 and got it put in for 800 so not as bad.
