I want to move the motor back two to four inches in my '71 Bird and would like to move the wiper motor inside the cowl. Anyone done this? I would like delay wipers and washers as well if that is not too much to ask. Thanks for your help.

Is the 2nd Gen done the same way? It's a start.

I used the factory mounting bases on my car with an S-10 motor mounted on the inside. What a pain!! A trick setup I like better is used in street rods is made by Specialty Power Windows. Weld in 2 bungs and remote the motor anywhere, plus adjustable for any sweep you may need.

I hate to revive an old topic but I'm in the process of cleaning up my firewall. I'd like to relocate my wiper motor/washer pump. Besides spending $2-300 for a kit is there another way to remote mount the wiper motor on my 67 Firebird ??? My car is currently pretty well stripped so acces to most places on the car is not an issue.

Anything ???

This is what I did.

I got the idea from Paul67 on here. It uses an '85 VW wiper motor. I wired mine up a little differently than he did. Here's how I wired it.

I'm sure that it could have been a little cleaner, but since the VW wiper motor doesn't have a park circuit, I wanted to make sure it would stop at the bottom of the sweep.

More pictures and even a failed idea of wiring are on my site at http://www.camaroheaven.org/modules.php?name=Auto_Gallery&pa=showpage&cid=36

I haven't put a washer pump in the car yet, but I plan on doing it in the future. In testing the switch, it looks like when you push the factory '69 wiper switch, it grounds out so I am pretty sure that the ground for the washer pump would be driven off of it.

Really cheap idea is to just remove it and carry some rain X all the time.

I've been considering doing just that. Since this will probably be a fair weather driven car probably won't see much rainy driving. Even here in Fla. Would probably even shave the cowl and clean it up where the wipers stick out. Haven't decided yet but leaning that way.

I put a water tank in the trunk and run the orignal washer button on the 67 camaro wiper switch if that helps .

Every SUV I've owned, has had a cowl mounted wiper motor. The boxy 1990-200? Cherokees had one that was covered in a rubber sleeve for corrosion resistance. The current Envoy/Trailblazer has them too. I've been meaning to stop at the dealer parts counter and take a peak at one.

Hi!
Here is what I did to hide the wiper motor.
I have a -69 Camaro , but You get the idea.
I havenīt finished the wiring job yet , but the wiper linkage seem to work very well.
Parts from a -97 VW.
I saw a similar way to mount the motor on a Pro-touring -67 Camaro , in a magazine. (CAR CRAFT Nov.issue 2004. Feature : Powder Up. )
When You put on the fender , the motor will almost be invisible , but still reachable .
If You still have the original brake master cylinder , You will have to remove the fender to maintain the motor.

Good luck !

OSDMIKE - I have seen another person do the same with their 67/8. They just kept the motor as close as possible in the original positon and used a threaded rod to connect the motor linkage to the wiper transmission. I think he also relocated the water pump and resevoir to the trunk area. I'm leaning towards trying this method since my fenders are still off as well as my dash panel. So I have room to work on this mod. Thanks for the pics.

We used a wiper motor from a 88 Volvo, made a simple L bracket bolted inside the cowl works great, it looks too simple though...lol

I will try and post some pics soon.
