I was hoping there was a good picture of this car. I met this guy at Cris Conzales from JCG's test and tune, and he picked up driving tips and techniques as fast as anyone ive seen. If there is anyone from Optima looking this is exactly the kind of car and driver that would be a good fit for the optima challenge.

He was fun to watch come around the hair pin next to the pits on the big course. A few times you would think he was in Formula Drift the way the ass end was hanging out. :)

That looks like the car I teched Sunday morning. Driver's name was Jake IIRC. He is the son of one of Brett's Fab53 clients so maybe Brett can chime in if he see's this thread or the Dad since he posts here as well. The car had an LS2 and vette disc brakes. I don't know about other upgrades.

Carl was also chatting with them a bit. They were discussing that it was an original SS 350 car.

Yep, this is one of my customers Jake Rozelle, I have recently worked on his Dad's 69 Camaro, white with black stripes. Jake is 18, and a great driver. He and his dad have been building this car with an LS motor and auto trans. He uses C5 style brakes and after market control arms with adjustable shocks. They both frequent Willow Springs, Adams Motorsport Park and some past GoodGuys events. Great young gun to this sport.

That's my son Jake and his daily driver that gets him to high school. He got the car bug helping me with my Camaro a few years ago and when it came time for his first car no import for him. He lurkes on the board all the time getting ideas for his car and very interested in the engineering behind the different suspensions. I've wanted him to post a build thread on his car and at least join the board and hopefully this will encourage him to do so.
He had a great day yesterday driving and talking to everyone out there.

That's Me! Wow, I have been a longtime daily lurker on this site and was pretty shocked to see my own car on here! Thank you all very much for your interest!

As was previously mentioned my name is Jake, I'm 18 and currently attending High School as a senior. The car, as Chad previously mentioned, is a 1972 El Camino SS, originally a 350 car. My dad and I have done all the work ourselves on the car, and it now has an LS2 backed by a 4L70E, corvette brakes on the front (saving for converting the rears from drums soon),savitske classic and custom front suspension, and currie rear suspension. Ive been trying to track the car more and more lately while still using it as my daily driver to high school. Hoping to get a build thread together soon for you all to hopefully take a look at!

Thanks B4 RC for the post! Great talking with you this weekend, and great to meet a Cal Poly Engineer like I myself will be working towards next year!:) Hope to see your car out again soon.

SLO Z28- thanks for the post, truly honored by your words as I have not been driving very long and appreciate them, along with yours and B4 RCs advice for improving, it is definately a learning experience. Optima is definately a dream of mine, one that would be a very great honor and would definately get me in high gear to get myself and car ready to compete with the awesome level of competition present there.

The Stig- wow Formula Drift! not bad for a kid used to racing motorcycles, thanks a lot for the compliment I appreciate it! although I'm sure it wasn't quite that good, that corner was tricky for sure.

Nice meeting you at tech Chad, I've been following your posts for a while and it was nice to meet you, hope to see you out there soon in your car. Talking to guys like you and Carl is always fun after having followed your posts for a while.

thanks for the welcome and all your help on that last minute fuel fitting Brett, car looked great out there!

I had an awesome weekend out there with all you guys who attended, thanks to the event coordinators for putting on such an awesome event!, and hope to do more events soon, including the Good Guys events and attending more Adams Motorsports time attack nights and hopefully the upcoming series there. I love the pro-touring cars and meeting guys like Kyle Tucker from DSE this weekend was pretty cool as I have already been accepted to college for engineering next year and am deeply interested in all the different suspension geometries and other aspects of the cars out there, of which there were some fine examples this weekend. Everyone is always very friendly and happy to talk, even the busy ones like Kyle and Mary Pozzi, who I was honored to have drive my car earlier this month at camarillo. It's a great community out there!
Thanks to all and hope to see you again soon!

If this is the same El Camino I drove last September, it is one cool truck (or car, take your pick). I had a blast and this is the real deal handling machine ...

Surfwagon, I'm a fan of your car as well, looked fast all Saturday and sounded mean too, definately good to see another el camino out there. Hope to meet you next time, hoping to make that socal challenge event but being on a Thursday school could be an issue, adams is tight course that I enjoy and it should be a fun event!

Mary, I think you've actually driven both surfwagons and my car before, his in september and mine in february at camarillo! Definately a fun ride.

I could only hope that my elco would turn out like that. I've done what I can for now but looking to upgrade rear suspension from stock air shocks to something more suitable for autocross. I love autocross but unfortunately I'm only 16 so I can't do an event yet. I would greatly appreciate any advice I could get from anyone with experience or knowledge. Also hoping to get into Goodguys summer get together in Pleasanton and have my dad drive while I ride for now. Amazing cars from all.

You can do an event at 16! All you need is a car and a parental waiver form. I wouldnt worry about the car off the bat as it will take you a long time before you as a driver catch up to the car, even something like a V6 camry  There was kids as young as 8 at the national tour.

I can?!?! Right now the only event I know of is the goodguys events and I can't go far away because of school and parents. Haha But I would like to know of events that I can drive in. I don't have a picture of my car yet but will put one soon.

You are in the SFR region SCCA, they run at golden gate fields and the Oakland coliseum. All the relevent details are on that site.

I need to stop looking at this thread, every time I look at Jakes' license plate I want to go to Waba and get a chicken rice bowl

Thanks for noticing! Didn't check this thread until today.

Funny story, my copy had the shipping label covering the picture so I didn't even know it was on the cover until my mom went to the grocery store and called me about it!

Definitely honored to have it make the cover with the caliber of cars at that event!

Thanks,
Jake

Congatulations Jake, the Nov 2012 issue of Chevy High Perf has a multi-page story on your car (truck?). Best of luck at UCSD this fall.
