i was wondering it anyone has had their box rebuilt by Lee? and if so how did it work out?
is there any pro's or con's to doing a re-build vs just buying a new box.
other than the obvious cost and fit issues.

I've heard nothing but good things about Lee Manufacturing . They pretty much "blueprint" their products ..

I have a unit from AGR in my 68 Camaro and really like it. Feel and response is sharp but not too touchy.

I've dealt with Tom and company for 20+ years, so I might sound a little biased.

In discussion's with Tom in the past (before the 670 became available) he liked rebuilding the 605 as it was a 'seasoned' housing and the fitment of the reciprocating balls was better because of this. Tom hand fits the assembly to tolerances tighter than the production line equivalent. However, it was Tom that pretty much came up with the 670 to begin with. The 670 was basically produced to his tolerances and Delphi jumped on board to make it THE production box for all gear driven assemblies primarily used by the big three in their respective truck lines.

Now... with the availability of the 670 box... the purchase of a new box goes unquestioned if the budget allows. The 670 box is FAR better than the 605 by leaps and bounds. The feed back and available ratios are much better in my opinion... and you can always play with the bypass valving to change the 'feel' if you chose to do so.

In summation:
Re-build, solid box but limited to ratio and isn't tight as the new offerings. It's actually a little heavier than the 670. Cost isn't that much less than a new box.

New, better ratios and better feel. It's actually a little lighter than the 605. Cost isn't that much over the cost of a rebuild.

Size-wise... they are nearly identical.

Cost... call up Lee. Also inquire what the minimum pump PSI that is required to run his box... as you should actually do that for every manufacturer that you consider.

I bought a 670 box set up by Tom Lee and it would not fit in my Nova whereas the original 800 box would fit. Mainly the interference was due to contact with my headers in the area where the power steering fittings go, box is also a little wider in this area. There is no doubt this is a good box but I would have to modify my headers to make it fit or go with older box which I did for now. Of course with the 572 engine things are a little tight.
