Several of you joined us at PSMC to tour Atlanta Motorsports Park during the initial construction. I have been spending a lot of time at the track as construction continues. Obviously weather in the south has been tricky over the past year, but they have made a lot of progress and are coming close to having a fully continuous layer of asphalt. They are shooting to start having events by the end of this month(March). Granted the full complex will not be done, but they are going to have a fully finished road course, pit lane, and temporary control tower. This will give them the certificate of Occupancy to start using the track while the rest of construction continues on the garages, kart track, offices, and other amenities.

I have a video from Febuary 10th starting the top of the hill on one side of the bridge around to the other side. I then cut back through one of the track bypass roads to the pit lane.

Enjoy!

Thanks Robert, I was wondering how the track was coming. Those guardrails are ominous to say the least! Besides giving me Fort Benning flashbacks it looks like an awesome course.

Thanks for doing that Robert, looks like it's going to be an awesome facility. I can't wait to get down there and try it out. It looks to be about 4 hrs from me which isn't too bad. I'm ready for some 2012 PT events!

I've been talking with the guys at AMP for a while now trying to get us a date for the ASCS, so there is a small chance we will run there this year if that works out.

The guardrails will have tire walls in front of them to soften the uh........problem time, but they are off the track a decent amount too. Hermann Tilke actually designed this track and from what I hear it is being built to FIA/CIK safety standards. It is also the first "green" track with a lot of cool systems to aid in that approach.

Just over 2 miles long, 141 feet of elevation change, corners mimicking famous tracks, compressive braking and cornering zones, and so many other cool features are going to make this a great place to run.

I have another video from last week that I need to get off of my Go-pro. I will try to get it posted up tonight; it shows a lot of progress.

Check out their website if you have not been on it. Atlanta Motorsports Park (http://www.atlantamotorsportspark.net/index.shtml)

Here is another update video. It is from this past week when I was at the track on 3-1-12.

I started in the same spot on the track as the last video so it's easier to follow progress. Open it to full screen so you can see all of what's going on on and off the track.

As the 'eternal pessimist' of the bunch I've been skeptical it would open in 2012. But your vids are making me excited!!!! I texted you...to ask when OUR first track is going to be?!?!?!!!

Looks like that will be fun!

What does it take to be a "green" track? Is it a LEED deal or a lot of landscaping?

There is a lot they have mentioned but here are a few I can remember lol. All rain water run off is recycle instead of dumping into sewer system, lot of solar power, using natural features as sound suppression, skid pad has it's own water recycling system, ect.... I the information is on their website.

I got the text about the tornadoes the other night but not about driving on the track. I replied on aol msg, guess it didn't come through. First track day will be sooner than my car is ready lol.

If you guys are with in driving distance, check out the link bellow. Bill posted a thread to see if we have enough people interested in having an event at AMP that can commit to it.

That's really cool that they are incorporating that kind of stuff into a race track. Pretty innovative!

From the home page:

" This world class facility is being created with the “green” objective of reducing our carbon footprint. This formula includes a sustainable building design, Falcon Waterless urinals, Sloan (Solar Powered) dual flow toilets, Sloan (Solar Powered) automatic water faucets, tank-less water heaters, reclaimed water for the irrigation system, recycling of garbage and oil, the maximum efficiency HVAC available today, thermal resistant windows, supplementary insulation, and the use of high-efficient lighting, LED and florescent bulbs."

Hats off to AMP!

Update video!!! Track is continuous!!! This video is a little longer, I started out in the pits and did a full lap and then came back into the pits. Lots of tire walls are placed, curbing is finishing up, debris fences are almost all finished, sand traps are being finished.

2nd/final layer of asphalt should be going down as soon as curbing and sand traps are done.

I have not been up to the track in about a week, but I called and talked to my buddy Don who does all sorts of stuff at AMP. He said they have finished the second layer of asphalt for one lane all the way around the track. The rain stopped progress for a couple days, but they should be starting the other 2 lanes once the sun comes back out.

Hopefully I will have another progress video next week for you guys! If all goes good with paving, they could be open in as little as a week!

Update!!!

It had been a few months but I finally made it up to the track a couple weeks ago and took these videos. The road course looks great! They finished the second layer of asphalt, painted the curbing and finished all the other things for the sand traps and walls. The cart track is going to be crazy! They had just finished the first layer of asphalt a week earlier. It has a lot of possible configurations. The road course opened around May 3rd and has been having track days and events since.

Enjoy!

Thanks for posting the videos!

AMP is a possible venue for One Lap next year and has generated a lot of discussion over the last week all of which would be relevent to an ASCS or alternative event. One of the key considerations for anyone is the 98 dB sound rule that they have - it could prove a challenge for several of "us". I know that I'm reworking my exhaust to make it but I understand that they have multiple sound meters (every corner station) and zero tolerance.

Just something to keep in mind.

I've been very busy lately, but had a chance to make it up to the track September 1st to meet some great guys doing a track day. A couple of them are members on here and run with the NASA Outlaw Vintage class. Darrell, Gordon, Art and Matt (car pictures below in same order) were great to talk with and very laid back. I spent most the day at the track talking, sending my Go-Pro around the track (without me) and taking pictures. The track has been open for months but this was my first chance to get by there during a track day and it was really cool to finally see cars going fast! I can't wait to get the go-cart's brakes sorted out so I can go play too!
