Hi there!
I'm Manuel. I'm 19 years old and live in the Netherlands. I don't know if there are more people from Europe (or the Netherlands) on this forum, but after a days of watching this forum, I thought: It's time to register an account and post the project I'm working on, together with my old man.
We're restoring a 1969 AMC Javelin 343 SST Karmann (or 79-K). I haven't seen a Javelin on this forum so maybe it is a bit of an unknown car here.
This version, the 79-K, is the German made Javelin SST. It was produced in the Karmann factory in Innsbruck. Only 281 79-K's are produced and 3 or 4 of them are still driving around in my country.
Here are some picture of ours:

My dad bought the car in the same state as shown on the pictures.
We already have the majority of the body panels. Parts are very hard to get for this car. Especially in our country. Pretty much everything needs to be ordered from overseas, in the USA.
Lately we were working on the brakes, cooling and some engine parts. We want to get the car up and running by summer and make a test drive in it. The engine is still good after 40 years, but there are some smaal parts that need to be replaced.
This week we want to get the brakes finished. We already have the new ones.
I also made a quick photoshop of the car how it should look like when it's finished:

What do you think? :D

Nice concept! There are a few Javelins here and some AMX's. Good luck with your build.

Hello Manuel, Those cars are rare here too, I didn't know that they made those in Germany as well, I'm Dutch also, (came to Canada when I was 5 ) what kind of options does that car have? I noticed the steering wheel is on the left just like over here, its' nice to have father son project, I'm hoping to do the same with my boys when they are older. Good luck on the project !

AMC wanted to sell these cars in Europe too. That's why they were made in Germany. But nobody wanted to buy the cars, because there were better and cheaper alternatives, like the BMW M3, Audi V8, etc.
The Karmann Javelins are basically the same as USA Javelins. The only differences are the odometer (It's indicated in km/h instead of mp/h) and it has European lights. There are probably a few other small differences also, but that I don't know.

Hello,
Very nice project.
I am from France and my father has a 68 Javelin since 6 month. It has been daily driven by the first owner for nearly 30 years and has now nearly 300000km.
We replaced the front seats with porsche 944 seats and are in the process of replacing the 14" wheels with 17" from a 2005 Mustang.
I really like your photoshop: where these stripes an option from AMC? they look really nice

Hey,
I am thinking of buying 17" wheels too. If i lower my Javelin, I think they're the biggest wheels you can have on a '68-'69 Javelin looking at this picture:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/03/mopp_0401_01_z1969_amc_javelinpassenger_-1.jpg
And yes, the striping was optional on a Javelin. To be more precise, it's the Mark Donahue striping of the '70 Javelin.
This is a better picture:

PS: Do you have your own thread here? I would love to see what you are building.

This is a 1970 Mark Donohue Javelin with 16 inch Minilite style wheels on it.

Minilites look awesome on a Javelin too. You guys are making it impossible to choose, haha.

OK, these are stipes for the 70. I never saw them on a 68 or 69.
for the wheels, I love minilites, but I can't afford the V48 from VWW unfortunately.
I don't have a thread for my dad's Javelin, I have one for my 67 Camaro, I am currently building a LS engine to replace the 383 SBC:

17" Veilside Andrew Racing Mesh. These are the new wheels I bought.
I know you are thinking: "Why the heck would he buy Veilside wheels?" Let me explain,
Veilside quit making wheels a few years ago. They are very rare and very sought after, and as a result: The pricetag is very high.
I got these very cheap (-60% of normal price) and I think they look nice under the car.
I'll upload photo's soon when I have the rims at my place.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/1OINI-1.jpg
We need some wheel spacers in order to get the fitment right. On this photo you can see that I need atleast 50mm spacers.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/04/LLP3B-1.png
Is that even safe to drive, 50mm?
I saw on a JEEP-forum that there are some cars that have 60mm spacers, used offroad. But can I safely use 50mm spacers?

Welcome, Manuel! Its always good to see another AMC here. They aren't exactly common, even in the US. We had a black 1974 Javelin AMX in the shop last year.

These cars were built in Australia also, so you may be able to find parts there too.

I don't think you can find many parts over there by looking at the build numbers:
1968 Javelin 90
1969 Javelin 50
1970 Javelin 70
1972 Javelin 48
1969 AMX 24
But I can always try to search for parts over there :) .

Yes, Martin has his own PT site but more importantly that also links to the PTGMC forum/group we have. Hope you will join us there as well.

Thanks all!
Maybe I have to make clear that this will not be a real pro-touring car. It will only have the looks of it.
The engine, transmission, driveline, etc. will not be modified and will stay original.
This is more of a restoration project. I'm a student and, well.... I don't have a lot of money to spend.
My next project (An El Camino, Cyclone or Coronet) will be a real pro-touring car.

Manuel,
we all have (and had) to start somewhere. You have a nice car, you'll make it look good, you'll enjoy it. I'll bet you, when the time comes, you'll upgrade bits here and there and that's what makes a PT car in my opinion. Don't feel like you have to upgrade every single component and spend bucket loads of money before you can be a proper member here or at the Dutch PT community.

I'm just saying, maybe some of you thought otherwise. ;)
I'm sure I will upgrade some things when the time and money comes. It's still my ultimate goal, to make a real beast out of this car, but for now it's only a restoration project.
Oh, and I will join the Dutch PT community soon too, René.

Another update:
The wheel spacers arrived today from Lugs 'n stuff over at Holland, MI.
I immediately mounted them on the car tot test if the wheels would fit.

The wheel fitment:

Update:
We cleaned the garage today, so I took some random photo's:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/WZF9L-1.jpg
Nice stance, but it could use some lowering.
Here's another photo, left side is with the spacers installed:

We've also found the perfect color for the Javelin. It's the same color of my dad his truck.

Never give up just keep on building the car the way you want it. I have had my Hornet for 5 years now and it's taken that long to get it where it is today. So I get the "pro tour" look for now. I must say I really like the wheels and stance of the car you are building! what are you going to do next with it? I have run wheel spacers in the past. Just make sure to re-check the torque on them from time to time. I used the red lock tight to keep the lugs from backing off with good results.
