I hate to not be totally honest but whenever I was asked about my Nova or wagon if I would be racing it, I would say no, and think to myself, (well, not today anyway). ;) The only problem is if I wreck it or hit someone else on a race track it's solo me-o to cover the damage. The agents have never asked to see the car. Keep in mind though that I only carry the basic insurance on my cars as I've been on a tight budget past few years. I can't speak about full coverage folks though.

Grundys turned down my El Camino when I answered honestly to using it for autocross, which in their speak is racing. I don't know if they would turn you down with a roll bar in there or not, but they might. Not sure about the other companies.

As a "timed speed event" or "competition event," yes, an Autocross qualifies as such. A roll bar will most like put your car in a different category for underwriting, i.e. modified vs stock (different carriers have their own specific wording).

Most carriers or their agents don't really know what autocrossing is but all they have to do is search Google or YouTube and they'll get educated pretty quick. Lots can go wrong at any timed speed event and realize you have no insurance coverage if you have something break, run out of talent, whatever, while you are actually competing on the course. This also carries over to your liability as if your car hits a course worker, another vehicle either on or off the course, or does damage to the event site, you may have to pay out of pocket for this.

And with YouTube ... you can run but cannot hide. The incriminating photos will be up before you even make it back home ...

My 69 vert had a rollbar which I discussed with Haggerty. They charged me a surcharge for 'non-stock' but did continue to insure it.

Seems like a roll bar would make the car safer for the occupants , and decrease serious injury ..

I didn't think any insurance would cover you while you were racing , or at a timed event ..
