Is there anyone between Sacramento/EG/Stockton that can test a MSD 6A box I have?
How might I test it outside of a vehicle?

It was removed from a car a couple of years ago. I haven't any vehicles to use this on so I am thinking if I can confirm it is still in good working order I will sell it.

Thanks!

No clue if you can do it that way. It would have to receive a signal (like from the magnetic pickup in the distributor) in order to fire a spark.

You need an arbitrary function generator, any good electronics technician will have one. Im occasionally up in the Stockton area, but I probably couldn't give any set time on when ill be up there next, other than in June and July for autocrosses.

Might try contacting MSD and ask them if there is a bench test proceedure.

I'd be interested to hear what you find - I've got a 6AL sitting around that I could sell if it's good.

Like I said, you just simulate the on car characteristics. The scope should looks something like this:

Um OK, but I don't know if most of us have whatever tool that is or can understand its output. So are you saying we just find a good electrical shop and have them test it? If so, what kind of place would do that specifically? In other words, if I were to look in the yellow pages where would I look?

Every GOOD shop should have a scope. Every GOOD engine diagnostic technician should know how to use it. Only an electrical shop, or someone that builds random crap like me, would have a arbitrary function generator. The trick is finding someone that knows cars and is a member of ARRL.

Half the guys on that list should be able to handle the task. There's a great shop in Stockton, on Wilson way by the porn store, but for the life of me I cant remember its name.
