In my attempts to find a LQ4 or LQ9 I found a good deal on a L92 with 19000 miles on it. Would it be better for me to turbo the L92, or keep looking for the LQ4? The big questions is what would I have to replace on the L92 to turbo it? I need some real world, been there done that experience. I already have a turbonetics T style I dont want to make huge HP numbers Im only looking to get 500 to the wheels. What are your suggestions? Im still looking for an engine so if anyone has anything that they wanna move Im searching.

This is the turbo I have to work with, plus the waste gate and BOV. I am going to use a air/air intercooler to

L92 has VVT and 10.5 compression ... not boost friendly

I know the VVT can be removed and the compression ratio is just a matter of new pistons. I was more looking at teh actual block and internals. Will they hold up to 10lbs of boost?

Pretty good chance it will live. The LQ4 would have a better compression ratio.

Given the size of your turbo, the larger engine would be a step in the wrong direction. Given the options listed, I would suggest looking for an LQ9. The added compression will help make the motor more responsive out of boost and they have better rods than the LQ4 should you decide to increase the power later.

Honestly, a 5.3 or 4.8 might be a better engine to look for if you're set on keeping that turbo. They're dirt cheap and the whole series of truck engines seems to support about the same maximum hp potential.

Id do one of these two options.

1. Forget the 6.0 and 6.2 and look for a L33 5.3. They can be found in some 05-07 Silverado/Sierra's with ext cabs. Its an alum block, has 799 heads which are similiar to LS6 heads, has 9.9 to 1 compression for good off boost performance, newer floating wrist pins, strong rods. They can be had used for $500-1500 complete. Swap to car accessories and a LS1/6 intake. Use the turbo you have and 500rwhp will be no problem, it will get great gas mileage, and be a blast to drive. That .81 ar on that turbo is too small for anything bigger than a 5.3 imo.

2. Pick up the 6.2, have the heads ported, stab a healthy cam in it, make 500rwhp and sell the turbo stuff.

Here's a an ls3 with 9-10lbs of boost. Supercharged though - http://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/1398132-2010-camaro-whipple-cam-headers-700-rwhp.html

I personally would feel a whole lot safer putting boost to a iron block versus an aluminum block. Just saying.............
