I have a 68 firebird im going to lower just a little bit with the 18's im putting on it. My question is if i lower the car, can i just slap on disk brakes? or are there special spindles I need like dropped spindles if i want to add disk brakes? Not a clue of what needs to be added and or swapped. All info would be great! Pics welcome:)

ALSO-any links to parts to buy? Budget isnt low but isnt high I dont mind spending a few hundred dollars.

Hey, I just replied to your other thread...Anyways, there are kits available that allow you to use your stock drum spindles to convert to disc brakes. I have 12" Wilwoods front and rear, but they can be a little pricey. A lot of the guys here like Kore3. Tobin posts here frequently and is a wealth of knowledge. If you don't know what you want, then he may be your guy. As a side note, 12" brakes look a little small to me with an 18" wheel. If I could do it over again, I would have gone with 13" up front, but the cost was another grand, and I couldn't justify it at the time.

Don't use the drop spindles. Just use a good lowering spring up front, and a lowering leaf up back. Check the other thread for details.

Nice! thank you 67rally! whats up with the dropped spindles? are they that bad? I would like some wilwood but i was thinking of maybe around spending around 500 dollars for the front brakes. Yikes! Ill have to look around i guess for some cheaper kits, i have no choice.
Im liking the black paint job, i was thinking of doing that or a charcoal metallic grey with some custom matte black stripes on some american racing daytona matte black rims.

Since you have drum brakes, the easiest and cheapest way to get a decent sized brake setup is with your existing spindle and hub, and a set of KORE3 brackets. Have the hubs turned down to match a C5 or C6 rotor, then use the appropriate C5 or C6 abutments for your rotor of choice. Throw on a set of C5 calipers and a set of new brake hoses (you'll need to go aftermarket, to match the 10mm hose port on the caliper, and the standard end on your existing brake hard line). You can duplicate this, even with new parts, for less than you can buy Chinese performance products or some other kit. If you shop around (Rock Auto is a good place to look), you can get standard C5 brakes for less than $500, or upgrade to C6 Z51 style rotors for about another $90. Keep in mind that while the C5 and C6 calipers are pretty much interchangeable, you'll need the correct abutments to go with your rotors.

Sweet! 500 though? is that just the front?

Yes, that's for just the front brakes. Some unlsolicited advice...if you have to choose, put your money into your front brakes since they're doing most of the work as it will give you the highest performance return for your dollar, even if it means sticking with the unsightly rear drums until you can afford what you want.

Is there anyone here selling their C5 braking system?
