I don't know if everyone knows it, but that is the same car as an AMX, with a little different shape on top. Leave it to you Jeff, always doing something out of the ordinary. I used to love the Gremlin commercials back in the 70's, with the cigar smoking gas station attendant, saying "Wheres the rest of your car tootes" to the lady driver.

Yep. That is the major reason why I have always wanted an early 70's Gremlin with a 401 and the Mark Donohue chassis modifications.

Hey guys,
We're still in the fabrication stage, as you can tell. I threw the wheels on just for this pic. The ride height still needs to be dialed-in.

There was some concept drawings in an early 80's edition of Carcraft magazine with a Gremlin similar to what you are creating presented. In the drawing the rear side windows were swapped and flipped so that the curve or swoop of the glass followed the slope of the rear hatch. There was a Gremlin called a "camback" that was basically a wagon version the gremlin. The rear side glass slope match the roof line of the back glass. I think the way the glass and rear roof line creat the triangle is part what give the gremlin it's character. I have a scan of the concept gremlin for CC that I will try and post for you tonight. As it stands where you are going with this car is outstanding! Keep up the work on it. Giving me really great inspiration on ideas for my Hornet X.

Yeah, then The slope of the qtr. glass would then match the slope of the back of the car, and not the front A-pillars. It might of been early 2000's in Car Craft or Hot Rod where I seen the rendering. Was just a thought. Someone could render it up easy.

You would need custom glass or something from a different car, due to the angles involved, just swapping them side for side and flipping them, would create a downward slope at the bottom of the glass.
Can't wait to see more updates. I've always liked the Gremlins, and this colour combo is killer.

When I saw it in a mag it had to be somewhere in the 90's cause in 82 I was 13 and not readin car mags yet. They should at least pull the glass and tape 'em on the other side and take some pics for a visual. I liked the vega build, and this one should be just as cool.

Very cool! It makes it look much more modern. But arguably, all the details, like this, that make the Gremlin so wrong, are what make it so right.
Very cool idea though. I'll definitely show the owner! Thanks for finding that!

Building/installing the chassis. If I recall correctly, we were able to adapt a first-gen F-Body chassis to this Gremlin, though it made the installation more complicated.
Note: This was a one-off application. The installation process you see here is NOT typical of our chassis. Our production G-Machine Chassis are bolt-in capable. Since we wanted to body-drop this Gremlin, more work and welding was required.

Thanks for the pictures of the early fab of the front end, it's giving me ideas on how to do something similar in my Datsun, while still keeping it uni-body, and similar to the original design, while upgrading the function and strength. :D
I can't wait to see more on this build, I've always loved the Gremlins, and the colour is a great choice. :D

The 335's look kinda small now that the rear fenders are flared.

The last I knew was the owner had the car and was getting ready to paint it. His plan was to have it completed for the upcoming season. I'm sure Jeff knows more.

I haven't been around here long enough, to have seen this before...all I can saw is "Wow!" That car looks awesome! I wish I could do that to a Maverick.

The owner, Mark Greenisen, has been slowly progressing with the final assembly. He's hoping to have it on the road this spring/summer!

He's going to need 12' long wheelie bars if he pulls a holeshot! Nice project.
