View Full Version : Is it just me or did the for sale rules change?

It seems like everyday now there are posts in the for sale section for parts or cars by people who do not have the minimum number of posts required. Lately I have noticed posts from brand new members selling in the for sale section with post number 1.

I would have sworn at one time or another I saw that the forum would decline a for sale post without meeting the minimum requirements.

Has the rule been lifted or feature turned off? I don't wanna be petty but the rules are the rules for good reason.

Thanks!

They might be getting special permission from the moderators.

We have indeed lowered the bar. All feedback on this issue is welcome, either here in this thread or via PM.

What was the impetus for this change? I can't see how brand new members would rally to change it? Nor can I see how established members (or moderators) would propose it...

Definitely confusing to me....

Maybe just MHO but, lower the bar and this will become Craigslist for car parts. It is starting to slowly happen already.

The next trend is shops and services without sponsoring, which is popping up here and there too. If you have something and want to sell it once you should need 50 real posts. If you make something and want to continually sell it you are a vendor and should need to sponsor.

It's just a test at the moment. I am looking into a true classified section hack and it will have either a number of post or time requirement.

My 2c - the same is reflected in the buyers too - which I know you can't really police. It's the ones that have 3 posts that inevitably contact you and ask for 50 pictures of 6 of the 7 items you have for sale and want your best price and free shipping. Nothing wrong with any of that aside from the fact you never hear from them again or you go back and forth and never results in a sale. I'm sure it's not the case 100% of the time - I'm just saying there is benefit to all in having a minimum "something" requirement

I know used parts are used, but I've bought more than one thing on here that was not "as advertised"...read didn't work! LOL. I think that opening it up to every yahoo that may not be a real "car guy" (or girl) is allowing us to be possibly screwed by our "members". I could get that from Craigslist or eBay.

Now if they have been members for a long time but never posted, that's a different story and could be allowed possibly.

Just my ¢0175!

I remember when the "rules" changed from a number of posts or a membership time to a firm 50 posts and it negatively effected me being able to post something. With that said, I do feel better about somebody being part of our community before I buy something from them.

On a somewhat related issue, I see quite a few posts from guys with low numbers that are never marked as sold or only after lots of prodding from interested members.

There are pure Lookie-Lou's in all facets of buying. I get turned off when sellers won't provide me more details of what they have, and if they don't, I just move it. You have to put some work into selling used stuff IMO.

Yep, I guess I don't understand what the benefit is to everyone (except the noobs) of lowering the post count requirement. It is a very skewed risk/reward proposition IMO.
