So, I recently decided to undertake something I had never done. Build a guitar. I'm a lefty so choices are much more limiting, so I figured I try and build my own. Before this, I had never done any work on a guitar, but its a lot like building a car, or at least a model car!

It was officially finished yesterday. A friend who also was my teacher played it yesterday, and was very pleased with it.
What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I just wish I could play great!

There are people who can't play, people who can play, and people that do things on the guitar that just defies all! And the last group are the ones that make it look sooo easy. I am not in that group.

I still want to get some parts and put together another one, my first was one my dad had acoustic, its got trashed as small kids can do, I got a Lotus Les Paul copy back in 86, loved it, fixed it up sold it and my old KMD GS18 amp for way too little. Been trying to get another electric, just sold my Jay Turser electric acoustic and small amp to my cousin for his daughter.
May try to build one after getting back to work.

I have friends who are guitar techs for some big rock bands and am friends with Hugh Manson who builds a lot of instruments including those for John Paul Jones, What the can do with guitars is pretty remarkable. The only thing I can play is the violin, spent years learning to play it well for my Grandmother.

That shot is from "Them Crooked Vultures" I toured with them for a few of their dates here in the west. Alain Johannes was the real magician with the guitar. I would watch him whip up a Cigar Box guitar and play the strings off it then give it away.

Looks good JB and it does remind one of a tele. I'll never give up my 40th anniversary american strat. I'm in that "can play", but not in the "defying all" category. Speaking of building guitars, it's not as hard as you might think:

BTW, do check out the "it might get loud" series. The one with Jimmy Page is awesome.

Dave Grohl has a way of getting the right people together. He and Steve were roommates for a while when Nirvana was just starting out. Steve and Kurt were best friends.

Johnny, Have you thought about making theme guitars?

Yeah, it is basiclly a tele. Wiring is 1960's spec, pickups are built to 1964 tele specs only a hair hotter. Has a 4 way switch instead of the typical tele 3 way.
Tuners are vintage style gotoh as well.
Knobs are 1972 deluxe tele.

Just got the Nirvana live at the PAramount DVD this week! Awsome.

Not really thought much about themed gutars, other than I want to build an Orange strat style to match my camaro.

In the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf of May 31, 2011 Steve denied this, saying (in translation): "Just like everybody else I saw him pass by in the street and said hello to him. That doesn't make us friends, does it?".
