I bought the clear coat spray cans to top the splatter paint, but have heard it's a pain in the butt. The spray goes everywhere and I need to mask off the whole car practically to keep it off the paint. So... I'm planning on putting down massive amounts of raamat so I'm wondering if that would be sufficient to seal out moisture. It certainly will keep any stray water from getting to the metal. Do you think I can get away with just laying down the deadener without spraying the clear first?

I'd spray something over it to seal it first. The splatter paint isn't waterproof. and any moisture that gets to it is going to make a mess, and potentially cause rust under the deadener. Shouldn't be a big deal. I have rolls of painter's plastic on hand, so let me know if you want to tackle this sometime when you're over here.

A couple good coats of epoxy primer will seal it for good if you are starting with clean bare metal. Anything else is just asking for trouble.

I just did my trunk with Eastwood spatter paint and clear. I got the spatter paint on something I didn't want it on and two day later I washed it off with water. I used the clear it covers good but it goes everywhere. You can check out my thread. Look at the Dynamet in the picture you can see the over spray. I had the trunk divider area taped off but it got on it from over the wheel well through the window opening. But it did come out nice.

We cleared my trunk with the same clear that is on the body. My buddy used the same splatter as I did, but he didn't clear his. After only three summers the splatter was scrapped off most of his trunk floor. My trunk floor looked great right up until I started cutting it up for my Q-link and minitub last fall.
