Hey guys,

I've got a 68 Camaro and recently purchased the RideTech gas cap kit when they were running the deal. My question is do I need to vent it? I've got a standard tank with a 350 SBC. New to this stuff and ya gotta start somewhere.

Does anyone have a 68 with a standard tank?

Is the cap sealed? The tank needs to vent somehow.

Here is the set up and I purchased it with the optional vent kit. I was just curious if I needed to install that portion.

Does your tank have a vent?

My stock gas tank (1965 ford falcon) has no vent but has a vent in the filler neck. You need one vent in the system, either the tank or the cap or the filler neck.

Copy that. I'll take a look this weekend. Thanks guys.

The cap is not vented. You need to add the vent fitting to the filler neck as supplied in the kit. Stock 68 tanks used a vented cap.

Hi Dave qwk question if I ran a non vented caP on my 68 camaro would it make it seem as if I ran out of gas even if the tank was full?

Yes, your pump would be trying to collapse the tank. Since you are pulling gas out of the tank you will need to replace that volume with air.

I think all there caps are non-vented just drill a small hole on the top of the neck and tap it for a brass or plastic fitting and then run a hose to a small exit hole in the trunk floor, and its vented

The cap itself is not vented, It may be a Motorcycle cap or some other application. Cars built after 1971 or 72 had Charcoal canisters for Vapor Recovery and the tank was vented to it, so they did not/do not need a vented cap. The cap did have a pressure relief in it though.

I had purchased a stock style ss cap that was suppose to be for my car but it doesn't look like its vented, and after it went on my car had fule problems

Every SS cap I've seen is vented. There should be a pressure relief/vent valve visible right in the center of the cap.
