the car is a 82 ford fairmont, i want to paint all the window trim in a trim black color.
from what i have found out he window trim is made out of aluminum.

what im looking to find out is if i need/or a recommend a adhesion promotor for the paint to stick to aluminum.

called the local carquest who has a pretty good paint department.
i told the guy im looking to paint my window trim, in trim black and that its made out of aluminum. i asked him if there was a adhesion promoter for the aluminum and he suggested.

DUPONT 225S-4 aluminum metal clean and etch
25.00 for a quart and u mix it 2 to 1 with water

he said you just scuff it then wipe it with (dupont 225s-4) then paint.

anyone ever use this stuff or hear of it or have a nother recommendation?

This might not answer your question exactly but Years back I fixed my wifes cars black trim with something like this. "Trimbrite T9005 Black-Out Tape" this might be the same stuff but whatever I used matched perfectly and held up very well, in fact better then the painted trim.

Wax and grease remover, sand with 400, wax and grease remover, two coats SEM trim black #39143. 2 cans should paint all the trim on the car for less than 30 bucks total.

Edit: Do not paint with the SEM in high humidity or it will blush.

Like John said only use a grey ScotchBrite pad instead of sandpaper. Much better finish and the Scotchbrite comforms to the trim shape exactly so it doesn't create dig or gouge marks.

I like Mark's Scotchbrite idea, will try it next time. Never had any finish problems but it should be quicker than the tedious careful sanding.

Powdercoat the trim... it will last much longer than paint.
