View Full Version : OUSCI - Are you wanting an invite for 2012?

Larry Callahan

If you are dying to get into the 2012 Optima Batteries Ultimate Streetcar Invitational then show us what you would like to bring. There are two ways to get in. Be given an invite or win your way in at an event.

So, post up some pictures and tell everyone about your ride. No pictures? That's fine. Tell us what you have and would like to bring.

Please note: This is not a way to get invited. I do not decide anything. I just thought it would be fun to see who is dying to get in.

Who knows, maybe this thread might get the attention of the powers that be and some of us will get picked.

Since my falcon is finally driveable, it would be cool to go!

My falcon has my designed front and rear suspension.

I'd love to go, but there's no way my car would ever show up in a SEMA booth.

OK I will throw my hat in!

Our Shop is 50 years old this year, we have several car shows planed for the year, a booth and hot rod area in the works with goodguys, also in talks to have a booth at SEMA again, its been a few years since the shop was there and members the first year SEMA was established, the shop has always been a Hot Rod, Drag Racing shop, and for the last few years our own shop cars have been Touring styles, so we will have a 63 Nova running some time this year, my own 68 Camaro and a few other cars along the way heres a short list on my car, as it stands now

This would definitely be me bringing a 'pocket' knife to a gun fight! But they say its not the dog in the fight, but the fight in the dog!!!

[ATTACH=CONFIG]53877[ATTACH]

My lil-dog will fight with:
VERY fresh restoration. Bumpers will be on by SEMA/OUSCI
6.0 lsx
Factory sub frame - all welded up
Tubular uca/lca
Qa1's on the corners
Frame connectors, front/ rear sway
ETC, ETC, ETC!!!

It may not be the biggest gun or the badest dog but it would surely look nice at SEMA and OUSCI...

I would love to be a part of OUSCI some day. I represent the young generation of pro-touring, and built my car 'Trackday' under a tarp over the course of 6 years. I have done many events and track days throughout California in the last couple years, and can't get enough of it.

I would greatly appreciate a chance to participate in the OUSCI!! I feel that my car would stand out in the crowd and perform well...and hey...it's not a camaro!!! I have plenty of on track experiance as I used to drive a 1983 RX7 in the SCCA Spec-7 class for two years. This would be a dream come true!!!

Here is my build thread to see everything that is going on with my car!!

I have been wanting to go to SEMA since I was 16, and just time wise, have never been able to make it happen. The Optima event in my opinon is one of the coolest motorsport events of the year, I'd love to go, can't imagine anyone on this site that wouldn't. I'd love to bring my Mustang or my AMX if its done by then.

Well what might be the breaker for some of us is that the OUSCI rules state that the vehicle MUST be shown at the SEMA show proceding the event. So unless you have an in with someone. Most of us common/back yard builders are out. even if you qualify at a regoinal event. rules state it.

BTW: Some bada$$ rides here. Love the AMX. I'll post up some info and picts of the wagon, for you to laugh at.

Ron, if there is a qualified car for this event that hasn't gone, I say your Mustang is it!

Most of the cars are invited well before the SEMA show and then they show up the week of SEMA to be in the Optima corral leading up to the event on Saturday.

Well another thing that I read in the rules is that the winners of the regional qualifiying events unless you have competed before you will not be able to compete in the OUSCI. refer to: http://www.optimainvitational.com/rules_2010.html refer to rule 3-3b. I am just stating what the rules say and it says nothing about vehicles qualifiying at a regional event will be featured in the Optima car corral.

This is an awesome event and some heavy hitters come to play. I would love to come back to OUSCI and redem thyself, but doubt I can due to the rules.
Many cars that enter don't see track time and some not even street time to work out the bugs, so you see at least half of the field lagging and many dropping out due to some sort of mechanical issue. This was my crutch since my car saw street so mechanical issues were good, but not track at the time so handling could have been much better. Although it did ok (placed 8th overall) it (I) had much room for improvment. Since my 2008 OUSCI entry, I have performed alterations to the brakes and suspension and tested at Willow Spings. The car is night and day compaired to what it was. Oh yea, there is the new engine thing too and the Ford stripe gone.

Even if I can't play again in this event, I would love to get back to Spring Mountain and see what my car can do. Looks like you need better than 1:50's on the road course if you want to be in the top 5 and mid/low 1:40's if you want to battle for top. Times are seriously moving. My road course time was only 2:00 at the time, but I know it will be much better now. 15 sec better? Hmmm

It should be there simply for the fact that it's NOT a first-gen Camaro. A nod for OUSCI invite gets better odds if your ride deviates from the norm with the cool and fast bits built on a platform that it wasn't designed for originally.

"Hellboy" qualifies on all counts as it's all that and fast, too.

Thanks to everyone supporting my Truck and pushing for an entry, that in it's self means a lot to me. This past weekend at RTTC Karl and the Blu-Balz Camaro and I battled it out once again. He took the top spot on the autocross beating my best by .030 sec. But, one the road coarse, the little red truck out ran all comers with a 1.43.38 fast lap to win the Road Coarse event. Had a great weekend. Thanks again to the ASCS and everyone for their support.

I built this car so my wife could drive it to work and I could beat on it on the weekends. So far so good.
