I know there's a lot of info on here but specifically looking at two different used systems and wondering what opinions there are between the two or a better alternative. Looking at the FAST system, part #30-121010 and the Holley 950, part #534-120. Both have harnesses for TPI F-body. This is for the camaro in my signature. Car currently is running an off the shelf TPIS chip which is greatly limited cars performance. Want something that is easily tunable and upgradable. I have very little knowledge in this area. Appreciate the info or suggestions!

I may be a bit slow, but I can not locate the FAST part number at all. It also looks like the Holley number is just an ECU, much description on the site. If you can find a link to the FAST or Holley numbers, please let me know.
FAST does make an XFI 2.0 TPI put together kit that would come to $2150 or so.
Holley does have the self learning HP setup at about $1450 complete for a TPI.
It may be more then what you budget, but in the end well worth it. I am a dealer for both, so if you need some help or a price quote, let me know.

The Holley unit is the 950 ECU with the 950-101 TPI harness, wideband sensor and converts from MAF to Speed Density. The FAST unit is an older unit with the conversion board that adapts to the factory harness, unit mounts in factory ECU location. Also has the wideband sensor. Both have laptop capabilities and are priced around $500 (FAST unit is just up the street from me). Unfortunately, I don't have $1450 + to spend on this right now but am thinking one of these may get me a better tune than my off the shelf chip I have now.

I am guessing that the FAST is an older setup and not an XFI then. Possibly not made any more and have to hunt one down?
The Holley 950-101 kit shows in the pricing and retails for $1267.97, but when you go to the description it just shows the base harness 534-128. The harness retails for 396.38 and the ECU for 771.75, so $1168.13 total.
I am sure you can find these for 10-15% off or possibly a used one. Used anything is a bit scary as you do not really know what you have till it is in and attempting to start or run.
If it ends up that you are getting new 950-101 kit and it it within $200-300 of the new self learning HP kit, I would go towards the HP kit. I just think saving a couple hundred bucks on this area of the engine could end up costing more in the long run and have a less desireable system.
Hope that helps.

I'm actually looking at these units used, both on thirdgen.org. The FAST system is from 2001 but the guy lives only a few miles from me. The other is the Commander 950 with the harness. The 950 part # is 534-120 with the harness (534-128 which is the TPI F-body harness from the 101 kit). One of my questions, which I think I've since answered myself through further research, is if the 534-120 ECU is the same one that comes in the 101 kit (kit also includes the harness, etc)? Both the FAST & C950 appear to be in good condition and nicely priced. One downside is b/c they're older models, your computer has to be XP or older.
I'm curious who has used these kits and what their experience with them has been.

I'm curious who has used these kits and what their experience with them has been.the older FAST is a great unit in my opinion, and easy to tune. Can handle N/A or blown engines with a map sensor swap, and can run wide open throttle closed loop. Believe they also have nitrous controls built in. I've done several of those.

What are the computer limitations with the FAST unit since it's a 2001...can you update it to accomodate a newer laptop w/ XP or Windows 7?

I just noticed in the thread that the FAST and Holley 950 systems arer used that you are looking at so now it makes more sense. I would go with the FAST also if I had a choice between the two.
Not sure if it will work with Wndows 7, but I know I use only XP for all of my tuning as well as have a 9 pin serial port. Some of the older FAST setups have issues going through an adapter cable from serial to USB.

Don't waste your time with the Commander 950. The FAST classic is a much better box. Make sure it it compatible with your distributor as in that era, each part number had only one application (ie HEI, LT1, Magnetic Trigger, etc)
