Those windshields look pretty nice. Any idea if they are California legal?
MuscleRodz

they are dot approved and carry a dot number so they should be 50 state legal. I am guessing it is not darker than factory green tint just gray instead

Are you able to send these to australia? If so what would be the cost. Thanks tony

we can but due to size and weight, I know it would be very expensive. Better off finding a LTL service to get it over the pond. I think Jet Services is one we have shipped to on a couple occasions in New York.

Sorry guys but straight from the FAQ section of the CHP website:
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

I can confirm that in CA, and many other states, these are NOT legal.

Agreed, NOT legal in IL, as I just checked the vehicle codes:
Illinois Compiled Statutes
Vehicles
Illinois Vehicle Code
625 ILCS 5/
ARTICLE V. GLASS, WINDSHIELDS AND MIRRORS
(625 ILCS 5/12-503) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-503)
Sec. 12-503. Windshields must be unobstructed and equipped with wipers.
(a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle with any sign, poster, window application, reflective material, nonreflective material or tinted film upon the front windshield, except that a nonreflective tinted film may be used along the uppermost portion of the windshield if such material does not extend more than 6 inches down from the top of the windshield.

Correct me if I am wrong, but 26708 of the CA Vehicle Code applies to any material applied to the window. These windows do not have anything applied to them, therefore 26708 CVC does not apply.

Just checked with my buddy who Sargent with the CHP. Since this is aftermarket they consider it a modification.
The statement above from the CHP says:
"The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting."
Believe me, this is a cool product and I will likely use it anyways. You can easily get a eye doctor to prescribe window tinting and this is all avoided. But is unfortunately not legal for us in Kalifornia.

Not true.
This will get you a cite VERY quick in CA. I had an officer I work with tell me a story about a group of BMW guys that used to race on the highway, some of them even displaying their cites they had gotten that day proudly on their windshield. He said he was driving down the road and managed to catch a guy from this group with all 4 windows rolled down and noticed that his window didn't look right as he drove by, and upon closer inspection he noticed that it was tinted. He cited the guy. The point of this story is two fold, first is this story stuck out so much he told it to me so it will get you on the radar big time, second is that even in a row of cars that was a virtual smorgasbord of mechanical violations the tinted windshield is what he went for.

Both laws mentioned apply to films added the way I read it. To be technically correct, if the law states any replacement tinted glass is illegal, then any aftermarket green tint would also be illegal. I do not know how the CHP or any other state can argue with a DOT stamp printed right on the windshield. Also, it is not any darker than the factory green tint, just gray in color.

26708. (a) (1) A person shall not drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.
Thats out of the CA Vehicle Code. If the window is truely DOT and does not have anything applied to it, 26708 does not apply. You cant argue letter of the law.

I remember when the peoples republic of California passed that law. My dad has no dark pigment in his skin and get skin cancer easy. His Pete had tinted windows as prescribed by his doctor. Dot approved dark glass was used. First trip into la they gave him a huge ticket and made him replace all the windows before he could move truck. He took it to court in lost. After all was said n done it cost him 7500 dollars. I feel sorry for you people on the left coast.

It is not auto city, Pilkington does not do smoke at all, it is another brand that does not sell direct but is handled by most all big chain retailers. We have had good results with everything we have installed so far.

the DOT stamp just says that it's safe to use and meets the standards for vehicle glass. The vehicle code refers to original factory specs, which grey is not the correct factory spec..
Based upon your location, I am assuming you are referring to the California Vehicle Code. Where does it say that?

Mike,
I need just the tinted rear window for a '67 Camaro. I got a kit from another supplier, whom won't be named, and the rear window had way too much curvature to it and is useless. A promise to replace got me nowhere.
If I was to get from you could I get a measurement taken of the glass before it was shipped to be sure the curvature isn't too much. Please PM a price for glass and shipping to 90061.
Thanks,
Aaron

I've got a 67 Mustang Vert that I need to side glass for right now. Do you know if they have a full set for this car? Vent windows, sides, quarter glass, rear split glass and front windshield? I'm guessing it's going to be a long shot of them doing the rear split glass for the convertible. If not I've got to figure out if the car will look goofy with 3 sides of tint and the rear not.

I've got a couple of other cars that have the Prodigy smoked glass. How does the tinting in the side windows compare to Frank's? Lighter? Darker? Same? Anyone know?
Have a new project and like the idea of getting a grey smoked windshield to match the sides (I realize the sides are probably darker).
