View Full Version : Best place to get C5 Calipers powder coated?

Just like the title says. I bought a set of C5 and LS1 rear Calipers and I would like to get them powder coated, but from what I could find the prices were crazy? Something like 400 for just the front. Is that a fair price or does someone know of a place that will do them all for cheaper.

I am looking for a set of yellow calipers, I would be willing to trade if someone happens to have a set and they want a stock color.

Thanks,
Ryan

I've had valve covers and control arms done by Roger, looks great and reasonable on his prices.

I did a little search online and found a place called The Powder Pro. They look to be a reputable company and have a following on another forum dealing with LS1's. I was just wondering if anyone had any dealings with them? Their prices are much better than the above link.

There is a shop near me that I use alot. I had a BUNCH of stuff done for the 49 F1 I was building. He charged me 50 bucks... The hardest part of doing this is the prep work. Once that is done the PC is easy. You might look into an Eastwood kit and do it yourself...

If they are used calipers, clean them up with a bead blaster, pop the pistons out, and take them to any powdercoater...it shouldn't cost you more than $40-50, for 4 calipers...maybe slightly more for yellow, but not a whole lot. Reinstall the pistons with a new seal kit, and you're good.

I used G2, http://www.g2usa.com/, about 9 years ago. I had it custom mixed to BMW's emblem blue. At that time I sent a color chip, now they mix to year, model and color code. They were great to work with. The paint is amazing. It still looks brand new if I get all the brake dust off of the calipers. It did chip off a couple of areas. I must not have gotten it totally clean.

Actually... I have painted calipers with brush on enamel paint... My wife wanted to paint her calipers red on the '94 Formula. Cleaned everything up, wiped it down with thinner and brush painted them with ACE industrial red enamel. They look good from 5 feet away... been like that for two years.

They are by no means perfect but they look good for all intents and purposes...

Eastwood sells a ceramic caliper paint. A lot cheaper than PC.

I had my C5 Caliper set rebuilt and powder coated by The Powder Pro. I did clean them up before hand, photo bucket link below:

I am happy with the results, he shipped them back before he promised them.

I've been meaning to try these guys out because they're local to me.
Rolling Meadows I believe which is 20 mins from my house.
Prices were VERY good too from what I remember of his quote he gave me.

I heard all positive reviews from the local Chicago racing forum they sponsor.

Yeah 400 sounds like a rip off to me.

That's my point also, Lee. You can paint the calipers with a 3 dollar rattlecan. The paint is not going to "burn off" like so many people think it will. If you prep it right it will look great and you did it yourself for cheap.

I am going try to buy a powdercoating gun from harbor freight for 75 bucks and see what the results are. I checked youtube and people have gotten pretty good results.

Just a warning, you get what you pay for...their powder isn't very good quality, and without proper pretreatment of the parts the powder won't last long. and you can't control your kV settings or get even Mil thickness with their guns...

Would it be worth getting the gun from Eastwood that had dual voltages?

Heard some good things about Harbor freight's Powder Gun with Eastwood Powders. I have used the Eastwood powder coat gun and that is what I would get for myself if I had access to a decent sized oven I could cure parts in (house oven is out).

Por-15 also has a Caliper kit, bought one of those still on my todo list, so can't comment on the results, but I do like the Por-15 line of paints.
