Hi Guys, I'm working on a 2 wheel drive 85 Chevy S-10 blazer. I'm on a budget so I'm looking for a way to upgrade the brakes but not brake the bank doing it. I'm not sure if I can use F-body calipers or I see C5 vette calipers are a popular swap Any help would be appreciated .
Thanks

I'm usually just a lurker here but I am an s10 guy and I'm currently piecing together my own brake upgrade. Check out the pro touring s10 forum, there is a ton of info on swaps like this. Also I would suggest upgrading to the 98+ 2wd blazer spindles as they have the bolt on hub. I don't know what your budget is, but so far my parts alone have cost me around $900.

Any other tips out there?

I would suggest that you contact Baer about their 13" track kit for the S-10. I bought this setup from them a couple months ago and they are great! The Baer kit came completely assembled on new drop spindles and was about the same price as cobbling together your own Corvette setup.

I forgot to note also that the only vette parts Im using is the rotors, I went with belltech drop spindles and have wilwood 4 piston superlites on the way.

What size Rims are you running with the Baer brake kit?

What's your budget? What size wheel are you running? If you already have wheels, what are they?

2002 or 3 S10 ZR2 rear brakes. If you have an 8.5 rear end, it might be a bolt on. That is what I am using on my camaro. Replacement parts available around the corner.

I'm on a tight budget. I would like to use factory GM parts if I can. I don't have rims and tires picked out but I'm open to running 16 inch and up rims. I'm not going for the whole pro-touring thing just a better braking system since I'll be running a V8,

I just installed C5 front and LS1 camaro rears on my '88 S10. I purchased C5 calipers and rotors from KORE3 ($400), some cheap brake pads and shim kit from R1 Concepts, and brakets/lines from Renzfab (Mine is 4WD so those won't work for you, but I believe KORE3 has brakets and hubs there are also several options on S10 forums, ed miller, etc). Rear I got of Ebay for $150. The older S10s have a three bolt flange so you will have to do some cutting and drill some holes. Also you will need to make some new lines since the LS1 caliper hoses have a different flare to them than the S10.

The C5 calipers and rotors are a very tight fit in the 17" C5 knock off rims I have, but if you want to run 16" I have "heard" that the front LS1 calipers will fit. OE wheels is a good place to get vette knock off rims if that is what you are looking for. Picked up a set with tires for $1000 (2wd needs spacers though). Attached a few pics for you.

You could do what I did on Project Grocery Getter. I bought a pair of '98-02 S10 Blazer 2Wd spindles from the salvage yard ($50), with the hubs, and got a bracket and hose kit from Tobin at Kore 3, which was very reasonable (don't remember exactly how much). Then you can use any C5/6 Corvette caliper abutments, with the appropriate rotors (stock C5, C6 Z51, etc) and calipers. I think the whole front setup on that car was around $550-600, for Z51 stuff, but it could be done cheaper with standard C5 parts.

Joe, Thank you so much for the info. That's the set up I want to go with.. I love the build up of your wagon as well.
Thanks again.

Vette rotors fit stock 98+ hubs?

Same bolt pattern and since its a "stock" upright the offset shouldn't move much if at all. All thats needed is a bracket to locate the abutments in the correct orientation. Tobin is the guy to talk to about those.

I wonder if this would work on a 1970 442 ??

I'd be at the junkyard in a heart beat grabbing parts if someone can confirm this.

If your looking at upgrade brakes give a search for Kore3 stuff and ideas as you can do some easy mods and upgrade easy on those if your willing to use 17 or 18 in wheels.
Kore 3 adapters, ebay corvette calipers and hoses and some hard work on your own, to up grade the suspension a tad while there add in tall ball joints, call Marcus over at SC&C for some SPC upper control arms and you have a set up.
The Gbody spindles dont work on old A bodies and Bcar spindle messes up all sorts of things without proper upper control arms and HO Racing quit making those long time ago.

The G-body/S10 spindles are a short design, with a cast-in steering arm. Lots of vendors sell what are essentially S10/G-body dropped spindles for other applications, and dimensionally, they are pretty close to the originals, but I have heard they don't work out that well (bumpsteer, though it couldn't be worse than the B-car spindles). Eyeballing the stock spindles and steering arms from a '71 Cutlass, and a G-body spindle I had on hand, I couldn't really see much difference. Still, I think I'd just go with a drum brake style spindle and hub, or one of the aftermarket tall spindles like RideTech, with aftermarket brackets from KORE3. For any 2wd S-Series truck, or G-body, though, you can't go wrong with the '98-'02 S10 Blazer 2WD setup.

Cowboy1,

I have a 91 s10 and just completed my upgrade this past weekend.
2000 blazer 2wd spindles/hubs(75ea @ Junkyard), Kore3 Hybrid brackets($125), FlexKore Hoses($60), Kore3 C5 calipers($299), 2008 z06 Rotors($250 Rockauto.com)
Stops on a dime (pun intended) and will be fully serviceable at your local auto parts house. I could have gone cheaper but with the 5.3 in the truck I'm always tempted to drive a little faster than i should...

Also, if you're really on a tight budget, you could always grab the brake setup off a 98+blazer. Its a two piston caliper with a slightly larger rotor(11inch vs 10.2inch) than our s10. If you go this route you'd need to make sure to grab the entire spindle assembly. Also you'd need some fitting adapters for the brake lines. These are a tried-and-true way to get our trucks to stop faster. Heck, the blazers are fat pigs comparatively and they stop fine.
