Can somebody help me out with this. I've found a set of NOS fenders for a fat fendered hot rod I'm working on. They and some small parts in Pennsylvania. To pick them up its a 16 hour round trip not including the border and the window to pick them up when I have time off is noon till 2:30. UPS want $150 a fender (they only cost $325) to bring them to the UPS store in Port Huron Michigan where I would be able to pick them up easily on my way back from Detroit and not have to pay duty as I'll be in the US for a week when I would be heading back through. Problem is that UPS says they can't guarantee what kind of shape they would be in when they arrived in Michigan. Should I risk it or do you know of a better, cheaper way to get them shipped? I wish I remembered what company I used when shipped my engine. They brought a ls2 from Wisconsin to my door for $500 on a pallet. I would think they could do something similar.
Also does anyone know of a mailbox store in Port Huron? I did a google and the same place kept coming up and it didn't look legit.
thanks
Scott

Try greyhound, a buddy of mine ships large truck parts, fenders, grills hoods, etc all over the US with them. Pack them up in cardboard, the seller can get at any bicycle shop. He hasn't had a problem with this method.

Thanks Chris. I should have thought to mention that. GH said there wouldn't be any room on the bus for something like a month.

You probably won't get anyone to guarantee it's arrival conditon if it's not properly packaged.
How about fed ex ground? You can have them hold them at the fed ex office in Port Huron and pick them up there.

Ya, If they aren't packaged properly they will get dented and this guy buys and sells parts but won't find boxes, won't package them, won't drive to the UPS store. I'm trying to buy $1300 worth of parts from him but that doesn't matter. He knows he can sell them. I wish I could pay somebody to drive to the house with two large boxes and peanuts.

You might find somebody here willing to do just that.
