next winter I will throw for a higher dollar paint job on the 71 Monte, but for now I want to focus on the interior and powertrain.
I seen the Hot Rod hundred buck paint job and I know you can spend right up to the same as a full base clear job, but I want something inbetween that isn't high maintanance (isn't that the point of these types of paint jobs)
I've seen SEM hot rod black, and I think it's fairly durable, but I'm just wondering if there is another brand I should look at as well.

Thanks
Warren

John Deere Blitz Black is what all the cool kids use. Most flat blacks do not have any UV protectant and fade out quickly, this is supposed to hold up better.

Keep in mind whatever you put on it will have to be usable under your "good" paint job or it will have to come off... Don't create more work for yourself than is necessary. DP90 epoxy primer will probably suffice and you can simply sand it down to start prepping for the nice paint.

yahh I would follow the above advice D90 is your friend! If you do not know what "paint" you will be using in the final paint job these other paints, that are Semi Flat, could create additional cost to your final paint job price. If you have a final painter / paint shop in mind I would go ask him what would be best as a "temp" semi gloss black solution.

I used Hot Rod Black under hood and it looks great. Not sure how well it would hold up on the outside though. I've heard washing it, or any kind of rubbing, will eventually make it start to shine. Have you thought about doing a flattened clear over a black base?

You can use DP90 and then clear it for UV protection. I've done it on the frames of a couple cars and it held up great.
