I'm in the process of putting a 2004r behind the Pontiac 350 in my 69 Firebird and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a crossmember to use. The existing transmission is a TH350, so I can't easily re-use it. I would like to be able to remove the pan without pulling the crossmember, which i understand can be an isue with a TH 400 crossmember.
Recommendations, anyone?
Cheers,
Ken

I used the Bowtie Overdrive crossmember. It's a pretty nice piece and reasonably priced.

Guess I'll get one of the BTO units ordered up then.
Thanks!

I thought a 200R4 would bolt up in place of a TH350... Using the original xmbr. Am I wrong?

I beleive it will, but I have not actually done the swap myself. I think the same driveshaft will work as well.

It is the same length but the cross member mount is farther back and will not work.

The driveshaft will work, but not the th350 cross member. Some have used the th400 crossmember, but there are issues with it as mentioned in the opening post.

Anyone have any experience with the X-factor unit?

Ken,
Not sure if you got a crossmember yet, but I wanted to show you a few pics of our BRAND NEW adjustable design mounted on our shop car with our Torque Arm kit. The adjustable cross members allow for virtually any conceivable engine swap/transmission combos.

Take a look at the installation instructions for more details:

Damn, I wish I'd known about this a couple of weeks ago. I ended up going with one from X-Factor. Based on my experience so far, I really hope it wasn't a mistake.
I bought a set of subframe connectors from BMR for the car last year and really like them.

Sorry about that Ken........ Do you have our bolt-on connectors? Post a few pics of them mounted if you can. I'd love to see more pics of your '69 Bird. Im a big fan of the Birds!

Well, resurrecting a long dead thread....
I know it's been quite a while, but I finally managed to get time to install the transmission in the car. As I feared, this crossmember doesn't even come close to fitting. It looks like it is for a TH350, not a 2004R. I've sent an email with pictures to American Powertrain to confirm my suspicions, but haven't got any kind of response back. This thing showed up originally in a box with a handful of pieces in bags with it. No instructions, no nothing. I know it's my problem since it's been so long, but at least a confirmation of my suspicions would be nice. Or at least a confirmation that I'm not sure about what I'm doing...

Looks like I may be going with the BMR one after all.
