LS3 Stock oil pan--good enough for Track Days & Auto Cross?

Before I drop this motor into the car, i'm wondering if the stock pan provides enough control over the oil and maintains pressure under heavy braking, cornering, etc. Let me know what you've experienced in your car---thank you!

Hey Doug,

The LS3 pans work pretty well for moderate applications as shown by the folks at Spring Mountain using the base LS3 coupes. I would add a 3 quart accusump just to be safe. Ultimately for very aggressive driving a dry sump, be it LS7 are aftermarket, is the way to go.

If the LS3 pan fits in your chassis then start with it.

Are you going to be ready for me in March to get the tuning done??? :-)

Doug - you could check with the folks running ImprovedRacing baffle setup for the FBody pans. About $200 from what I recall and looked like some great insurance for a wetsump FBody setup.

I don't think I will be ready in March for RTTC---however, if you would like to bring me the camshaft when you come down, instead of tuning, we can sip Apple Pie in the garage and install the cam at the Sat night taco party. Doesn't that sound like a good time? Oh, and we will have tacos of course---just don't startle me.

Doug, I run an accusump on the 'bullit, it has saved many a bearing. (cheap insurance) check out 'Aviaid', there in So-Cal, and make remote tank, LS-7 style kits for all LS swaps. Considering the cost of LS motors, any oiling upgrade is cheap.

Thanks D, that scares the crap right outta me. So, if I can summarize 16 pages of reading, if you sustain greater than 1.2 G's, continually and in paticular, a left hander---then you can plan on needing a new motor after each event you attend----so, I should put in a dry sump at approximately 4 to 6k and that will solve any future problems I may have had. On the other hand, you could leave the motor mostly stock, run an additional quart of oil, and not have any problems. I can see which of those will win 9 out of ten times. Was a very interesting read---gave me some insight into the mind of the Vette owners also--at least on that board anyways. I guess I will just put the SBC back into the car with a good pan---or buy an all alluminum bb. Yeah, gonna happen. Not sure car or driver are capable of 1.2 g's whether right or left turn---will trust Mike on this and do the Accusump. And the hits just keep on comin.

LOL. That's an impressive cliff notes version of that thread. Yeah, they are hardcore on the track there (compared to most of the PT guys here) but I know you plan on driving it pretty hard and hitting track days too.

Hell, just throw that blown 434 in there and git that a whirl. :)
