Does anyone know of a free service where I can plug in my dads 55 Chevy license plate number to see if it's still around?

Most BMV let you put it in online and see if its available, might try that first.

Thanks for the idea. I did a search for a personalized plate and his old plate number is available.

Larry,
The DMV of the state it was registered in may be your only option. If you have the VIN that would probably be helpful.

I was looking for the Mustang I had in HS in the 80's and the South Dakota DMV would not disclose any information on it at all. I don't have the VIN, only the old plate number.
