I am selling my old 84017 holley to a guy on here and the shipper priced it at nearly $50!
DANG! unless we can ship in on of the USPS boxes (buyer requested my mail over other means).
Man I need the cash but I hated sending that email.
I mean he got a great carb at a reasonable price but crap, the shipping is nearly the same price as carb!

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. I work at a post office and see high shipping charges all of the time. I just bought a cam from Summit. It was one of the $100 ones with the lifters. I can't use UPS or Fedex so I had to go through the USPS. Between USPS Priority shipping and Summits handling, it turned out to be $142 from OH to FL. Yikes.....

What shipper quoted you that price?
I use UPS and USPS a lot.

50 bucks must have been with USPS. You should be able to ship a carb within the 48 states for under $25.00. If you have a paypal account go to www.paypal.com/shipnow and change the shipping default setting from USPS to UPS and you can get the rates based on weight and box size.

How about if the carb has had fuel in it before?
Does that add to the price and the method of shipping change vs a carb that has never seen any fuel?

I know UPS will not ship anything that has had fuel in it.
USPS is probably the same way.
But if their is no odor, and you are not totally honest, you may get it through.

I find that shipping items just regular mail is much cheaper than fedex and ups. I have lost money shipping parts through ups before.

USPS is the worst company to ship through next to UPS. Fedex will give you the best rates. A carb can be shipped for less than $20. Just make sure its cleaned out and wrapped well.

If you are trying to ship through one of the UPS stores or authorized shipping location, be prepared for some HIGH prices. I normally ship everything on my account, but recently went to ship a part to a friend without using my account. I previously checked UPS website and the rate was $42. The shop told me it was $69. And all they were going to do was slap a sticker on it. So I left and went to a UPS hub in my area, and it was exactly $42. Looks like a lot of 3rd party businesses are jacking prices to make more money around the holidays.

UPS picks up daily at my business (not car related). I just sold some of my leftover car parts on ebay and shipped them thourgh our account. Today I shipped a 12lb box (valve covers) to Seattle from Iowa for about $13.50. A week ago I shipped an Edelbrock 1406 and it was around $17.00. Guess I’m spoiled…
Rates have gone up this last year though. Lately we have been checking rates against USPS flat rate boxes. Since we ship locally the mail time isn’t too long for our customers.

You are getting the run around. you can easily ship a carb usps parcel or ups ground for under 20$. I just shipped a atv frame ups ground and it cost me 42$. My engine cost me 81$ if i remember right. That was a 95lb crate. I recently parted out my entire race quad and was getting very reasonable shipping costs. Go right to the ups hub, not any of those bs ups stores.

Well according to the usps sizes it MIGHT just fit in one of the shipping boxes, but its going to BC up in Canada and guy ASKED for USPS, so I called friend who has been shipping stuff for ebay for long time, gave her measurements, she has it figured at almost $49 UNLESS we can use the one of the flat rate boxes. be a lot less if it goes to 48 states but its not.
Bad thing is I really need the cash and I hope he doesnt back out due to price of shipping. I even am using paypal but never saw anything about getting any better rate or anything.
OH well we will see.

Go to the US post office. I'm pretty sure I saw a box that would fit a carb for just over $10.

remove the threaded stud on the top and it'll fit in a large FRB. Just make sure to add lots of cardboard on all sides / top / bottom as during the holidays, there will be lots of other packages stacked on it

make sure you wrap it in a couple of plastic bags if it had fuel or you will be in trouble. Also make sure there is no way anything will get broken when they throw it.^^^^ Like said above Take thick cardboard and stack it up under the baseplate then surround the sides in cardboard or thick styrofoam blocks

Well he agreed to high price of shipping, now just gonna see if Ican get it shipped cheaper, reason he wants post office is the fees incured with UPS/FedEx.
